ok here the eggs and the bator! We had HARMONY weigh and candle all the eggs, so we are doing the weigh for air cells this time around!!

Hot water thermostat mounted at the left light bulb and the fan is on the right shooting accross both bulbs...
Suggest the Wafer thermostat that regulats AMBIANT heat as apposed to this one that does RADIANT! But we finally have it acurate in placement basically against the light bulb!

The white on the plexiglass is the sealant that didnt dry all the way yet, it should dry clear eventually.. the ball jars have water in them to help keep the bator more solid mass and hold temps and heat better while turning.

A friend gave a few hatching eggs this morning but they feel REALY REALY cold, will they make it for a hatch?

This has been a fun read through! Yes all 108 pages! sitting on the edge of my seat until little Halo made it! Yea, none of my friends or family get me either....

But I will hatch along; found this thread because I was looking for advice on how to handle shipped eggs. My first hatch were my own and everything went great. I have some lavender americauna x EE which arrived today. The other package is missing; they shipped together and left the sort facility together this morning but don't know where it is and it's the one I really really want! French Black Copper Marans! The eggs were well packaged but I"m a little disappointed as several were dirty and one even still had a small blob of poo on it. If I were selling eggs I would never send one out like that! And the PO did crunch a corner of the box so one egg has hairline cracks, even a speck of shell trying to come off. I sealed it up with melted crayon so we shall see what happens.

They are currently sitting big end up in a carton. I don't have a good candler; just used my flashlight last time but it was hard to see into the Welsummer eggs and the Marans should be even darker. Might see what I can rig with a desk lamp to make it easier. Hopefully the other eggs will show up tomorrow, of course I have to work late tomorrow but will see if I can sneak off to the PO for a few minutes during the day and at least drop them off at home.

From what I have read you don't want to wash eggs. The hens reproductive track puts a natural protective coating on it. Good luck with your hatch.

Oh I know they shouldn't be washed, but when I set my own eggs if they have more than a speck on them I don't put them to hatch. Shipped eggs already have enough problems though, why would someone send them dirty and increase the chances of bacterial infection?

Harmony has her cooler bator full of polish, brahma, and who knows what will show up in her hatch!! There is even a teeny tiny litte white egg (its a bantam leghorn WHITE no less lol) the bator is doing well holding the temps too! so proud of her and her daddy!

We had a cracked one, well it had a dent but we had plenty so it was trashed.

I bought a candler but it gets hot, so I wish I would have paid for the cool one : ( lesson learned eh???

I sure hope the rest of them show up!!! What did tracking say? that stinks!!

I am excited for Harmony and this new homemade coolerbator! Awesome to have you hatch with us!
