About four weeks ago we got the cutest little jubilee Orpington chicks from a local breeder. This is the first time we’ve gotten day old chicks in two years! Hubs isn’t a fan of having a brooder inside so we’ve stuck to getting grow outs every other time. I’m so excited to watch these babies grow, they were so friendly and responsive to us even as day old chicks just after being brought home. I also tried vent sexing for the very first time with these four and it seems like I got 4/4 right! (Unless I have a late blooming rooster trying to sneak by unnoticed). Right now it looks live we’ve got three girls and one boy. This is also the first time we’ve been able to watch a cockerel grow from that young of an age and see how differently he’s developing with feather growth/colors/behavior. He's also always sounded different from the three girls, definitely interesting!

I don’t have any names for sure picked out, does anyone have any ideas? We’ve been calling the boy “Tater Spud” because his little round butt looked just like a Yukon gold potato when he plopped down in our hands and he was about the same size and weight of one 😂. We’ve got a runt out of the four who had some issues with splay leg and bent toes for a bit until it got stronger. We’ve been calling that one Gimpy or Gimples but I was thinking of naming it Midge. My favorite out of the four is the most fully feathered right now, I might name her Luella or Louetta. There’s one “girl” left that I don’t have any ideas for though!

They’re super cute. I don’t name all my chickens anymore but some of them have group names like the Buck-ees (two Buckeyes I can’t tell apart) and the Tennessee Three who I also can’t tell apart but they came from Tennessee. You could name them after a group of four characters you like.
