Ok so I have a stupid staggered hatch, 2 go into lockdown today and 2 tomorrow and the next but if the ones that go tomorrow and the next are rocking should I lock em down today too?

if they are rocking I would lock them down as well. A couple days early is better than a couple days late in my opinion.

I'm confused. I heard ducks are so great, but you don't seem terribly impressed with your experiences. I'm seriously considering hatching some for myself sometime, but what gives? Are they good pets or not? I don't want to take on something I'm going to end up regretting, or worse, eating :p

My ducks actually like me better than my chickens ..I love my dukcs but could just be their personality

I candled them all and some of their air cells are way small. Does that mean that I'm going to have another nightmare assited hatch? But I put them lowest part of the air cell up laying down because they are solid and they are all ROCKING!

Ugh, nevermind the ducks then, though they are cute.

I like the look of the Sebastopols. Anyone have those? How are they personality-wise, generally?
Ducklings are cute in anothers brooder not in mine.
Perhaps my streak of bad luck is ending?? I put 3 eggs into lockdown on Friday. I had my hatcher just a tad cooler than I had been running it. The past two hatches, I had 1 chick hatch out the day after lockdown, and the rest died... Yesterday late afternoon (5ish), I checked on them... Nothing. My bator is at work, so it's a little easier for me to stay hands off. This morning when I got to work, there was a chick hatched and dry, and the other two had pipped. The other to hatched out perfectly fine during the course of the morning! So that was 3 for 3 that went into lockdown!!!! Yay!!!!

I have another set of eggs going into lockdown on Wednesday, then my duck eggs on next Monday... Hoping for good results!

No. I have seen small aircells hatch perfectly fine on their own. If they are rocking I wouldn't take the chance on trying to get the aircell bigger. Just my opinion.

I love ducks! Yes they are messier but especially if u hatch ur own they are like dogs but a little more independent. They have so much personality and are very intelligent, I will try and post a video of my Rouen drake and my pit bull mix dog. They are best friends, my dog runs in the backyard to case a cat or raccoon away and Clyde(my duck) is immediately on his heals then when my dog is just out in the yard Clyde bites at his silver dog tags and runs around his legs. A lot of personality that is why I like them so much!

That's what I thought too so I locked them down with the others that are due for lockdown today even though they aren't due for lockdown til tomorrow and the day after wife every single one was rocking like crazy. Do u think that was the right thing to do?
