I haven't been on here since late yesterday, and I have a lot of post to catch up on. I set my duck, turkey, and guinea eggs in the incubator about 15 minutes ago, and 8 of my chicken eggs under a broody oeg hen about three hours ago. She went to the nest instantly and hasn't budged yet. I'm always impressed with the broody instinct in game hens and silkies. I had game and silkie crosses once, and I couldn't keep them off my eggs. I'm going to put my remaining chicken eggs in the incubator after seven more days, hopefully they'll be ok in seven more days. Does anyone have any tips on how to keep eggs alive while waiting to set them. They are 4-5 days old as of now and will be around the 11-12 day mark when they go in. I have a friend who hatched some three week old ones, but he kept his refridgerated until time to put them under a hen. Mine have been in shipping and then in my basement at 65-70 degrees for days now, and i'm not sure cooling them down now is a good idea. Any thoughts?

for your eggs working out.
Help! One of the eggs in my incubator pipped on the wrong end... Just a tiny pip but a pip none the less. What do I do?? If I just leave it is there a change that it will turn around? I feel horrible :( Every single egg has hatched PERFECTLY so far. Something was bound to happen

awwww I am sure someone answered this, but I have issues quoting so wile its here....... When I have a wrong end pipper I grab the egg quickly and mist the side of my bator, not eggs and I use a tweezers sterile of course or a needle and just open the hole a tad like a little bigger than a pin hole, if there is no fluid I put it back and wait, usually I can time its resting period with other eggs that have pipped the same time and can judge if intervention is needed. If the hole has fluid you will need to open it a tad more, like the size of a Qtip "bud" as sumi says! and use qtips to suck up that fluid and once its sucked up you can see if you get movement from his beak or chirping, most times if there is a lot of fluid or even stuff that runs out of the shell they had already drowned unfortunately. but don't just go opening the egg, still follow the assisting guide just in case its alive only taking bit by bit at the pip hole.

I hope I run into an update as I read!
Hi Sally and Sumi and everyone else I've never met

Love your thread!

I love to hatch, and Sally invited me to drop in. I've got 42 goose eggs, 12 turkey, 14 chicken, and for some reason 0 ducks in 2 incubators right now.

Mind if I join you?
HOLY gooseness my friend! what breeds? I have turkey in the first time for the cinco de mayo hatch, I was henn nabbed and egg bombed with the turkey and she (Chooks Chick) sent me cochin too! so sweet! DH didn't kill me either! I also have 17 ancona duck eggs in the bator, 23 button quail, silkies, brahma, Ameraucana, maranas and marans under a broody. I have an addiction and my name is Sally.
The ducks are doing just fine. If you remember, they were all assisted hatch. And the next pick is my buff orpingtons from the nightmare hatch with 19 newly acquired Blue Laced Red Wyandottes.

2 out and several working on it. Night all!
PICS PICS or they don't exist!
Hi all,
So my eggs are still going in the incubator (just finished day 14) and I candled again, and of the 34 developing there are 3 that somehow ended up with the aircell down. All 3 of these eggs were particularly round, so I guess it's possible I put them in wrong end up, but I candled as I was putting them in... I didn't notice aircells on the wrong end at day 8, and didn't notice any of them rolling either.

I now have them all with the aircell up in the egg turner. My question is this: With it being day 14, is there a chance the chicks will still be able to get in the right position for hatch? Or are they pretty much guaranteed to pip the wrong end/not hatch at all?

you may want to lay the eggs down for hatch if the air cells are all intact, that way the egg can rock and roll and do its thing. you will want to make sure your cells are marked and watch these closely at pip time.
What a night I had. My hatcher totally failed me. I have had to take all my eggs out of my 1st and pile them all into the styro. . Then turn that one into a hatcher. All because I couldn't get the temp above 34c. Then I wake up after thinking I had got my styro sorted and OMG. It was running at 104.

. Well I check one bantam egg at it looks fine to me. But oh my god!! 104. With about 50 eggs in it!! I can not believe my luck!! So back down to 102 they go! I now have just realised I have about 41 eggs that need to go in somewhere today tomorrow!! Hubby said give it a couple of weeks and we will get me another bator!!

my eyes so lit up!! Not only have I got an addiction. But my husband is completely supporting it! Hahaha contraband it should be. Lol omg. I'm afraid these 41 eggs will just have to pile up in the styro for now. Till these other babies hatch!!
Oh and by the way. Had a peek and I am sure one of the banties beaks have come through the air cell. It looks like a dark shard of glass poking through. In a shadow perspective. But the membrane kinda looks intact. Maybe it will just push through it more. Nothing else to report there though. On day 19 still until 2:30 here. So 5 more hours.

And I tried to read through some of the post. Wish I had more time at the minute to contribute more. But it's been hectic here. I have about 7 pg's to catch up!!
oh NO!

hopefully they didn't get that high internally. But positive thinking is always best!

Omg I am totally happy. Just look my Bantam egg!!
Few more hours will be day 20. So I think everything is spot on. I have humidity hat 73 percent. I hope that works. This has been such a hard batch of eggs I just hope and pray I get a good out come!

Hey Sally, sorry about your hen. If you lived closer I would have a few of the same you could have.
Awwww your sweet Tony! I have one other, and she is actually mine from peep, her name is "red" everyone told me don't get a RIR they are flighty and not friendly. WRONG
She is wonderful in the layerpen and the run is open, she is THE ONLY chicken I have never had to lift back in! (maybe because she flew backin herself or smart enough to see her demise in the dogs yard! lol)
OMG, that is sooo funny! It's still early here in KS right now, and those walls totally made me stop and stare!

Shame on you doing this too me so early in the morning. I don't even drink coffee!
Coffee is gross not quite as much as cigs, glad I stopped cigs, now coffee I am fighting, go figure! but I am down to one of those travel mugs a day I think its 1.5 cups?
Sally, thank you so much for the kind welcome!

I scared the poor little bugger when I turned a flashlight on to look in! I love the chick songs! he started cheeping and then I heard the eggs cheeping to the sounds of life! PRICELESS!!
Quote: oh WOW that does suck! I looked out at the road because I hear chainsaws and I can barely see, but there are about 5 tree trimming trucks out there, THEY better NOT hit a line today working!
