Quote: Very tight. You are actually tying it off. You want to tie the string very close to her belly and then cut off the remaining yolk.

Sally uses dental floss, but I usually use thread or yarn. Coat whatever you decide to use in either antibiotic ointment or iodine to make sure it's sterile. Once you have cut of the remaining yolk, put iodine directly onto the chick's navel.

I agree, if you have time snap a pic after tying it to help others see whats going on too! good luck!
My thoughts on the string, if you have dental floss use it, its made for in our mouths so it has some degree of sterilization, however thread is fine, soak it in iodine or betadine

electrolites... got them for her? she may need them since she didn't get all her yolk!

Homemade Electrolyte Recipe for weak/ill chicks
2 C. Water
2 TBL. Brown Sugar, honey or molasses
1/2 tsp Salt
1/2 tsp. Baking Soda
Mix until all dry ingredients dissolve & Keep refrigerated
You could also use electrolyte drinks Gatorade or Pedialyte, or
3 drops of POLYVISOL (liquid childrens A-B-D vitamins)
Slowly drip along inner edge of lower beak.

I will add, that since ... I think it was cochins got me on to the "grow gel" for chicks I am hooked, they devour that stuff, and if I have a weak chick and it at least chirps I can get a little pc in her mouth so she can swallow it by herself so I don't force water down into her lungs... LOVE LOVE the stuff..... I got mine on ebay....

I gotta run.... maybe coch can hook yall up with a few links that sell it..... I think I got mine on ebay....
