Sorry I haven't been on for awhile, I had not much to report. Thanks to Hatching 101, Sally and a separate hatching incubator, I am having better luck with shipped eggs. I had six ams from somebody on some swap, can't remember who because I claimed like six offers of various am eggs. Anyway, two hatched today after I put them in lockdown on Friday.

Today is day 21. I candled as I put them into the hatching incubator and I only saw movement in two, so when two of them hatched, I figured: " that's my two" and I pulled them out, effectively breaking lockdown. I had the sense to candle the rest of them and I noticed that three of them were internally pipped and as soon as I shone the candler in there, they started chirping. There were two buckeyes that were dead in shell (but I'm incubating at 102 to weed out the boys, so I can assume that these were boys?)

So I put the three chirpers back in the hatching bator, spritzed it with water and closed the top and I am now resisting the almost overwhelming urge to obsessively candle them. Will post pics when they decide to grace us with their presence.

I still don't fully get that high heat thing lol

I will testify, the boys just can't stand the heat, but then again, we always knew that! I am getting nothing but girls, which is great because I have all of the roos I need.

I just walked past the hatcher and one of the three chirpers has pipped. Thank goodness I had the presence of mind to candle. I guess I shouldn't base the eggs I choose to move to the hatcher on movement.

Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall,
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall.
All the king's horses and all the king's men
Couldn't put Humpty together again.

ok here goes a story, perhaps this is the real reason you don't candle or touch your eggs during lockdown....
two marans in the bator, I put them in lockdown last night because I knew I had a full house today. I didn't candle as the DH was messing with wiring in the lower level and it was too bright. so I decided to do it quick since the baby and some kiddos left. Well I get the egg out as I am reaching for the flashlight little luke grabs the light from me as I am balancing the egg to candle and splat, not that I am real tall for a large drop, however this is an egg right? uggggg tile floor even worse. I couldn't feel movement, the embryo actually feels very tiny to me, which is weird and it still holds ALOT of water in it. I put a towel around the broken part and put it in the bator. I cannot believe that outer membrane is still intact! I don't expect it to live if it is still alive, but I don't have anything better to try to save right? Now where is that "WHAT TO DO WITH A DROPPED EGG at DAY 18" article??????? I cant seem to find any help! I know I am wacked but lucas is devastated and if anything he still thinks its alive in there and give him time to forgive himself.
