I'm kind of sad. I had bid on some sizzles. I was outbid but then the seller said she'd do a 2nd chance and i could get them still. Then she told me that the other bidder had asked for another dozen and could I just wait a couple days. I told her that wouldn't work because I was expecting other eggs to hatch at the same time...so she said I could get a partial amount at a little less...in the end the eggs would've cost .75more an egg... not a huge amount but still a little more than I wanted...well then I found out that the seller had Offered the 2 dozen to the other bidder...idk it seems kind of wrong to me. :( guess I won't be getting my sizzles. :(

ok. nevermind! i guess i will be gettin some! yay! :) they're so cute!
they'll b my first batch of shipped eggs! wish me luck!!

Quote: Your set-up looks fine. As long as the chicks are happy leave them be. If you see them huddle together under the light they are too cold, then you could lower the light a bit. As long as they are out of any cold draughts I think they will be fine though. Chicks are a lot tougher than we think!

I'm ready to put my chicks outside except for just a few that are a little to young. Most are in the 3 week to 4 week old range. I have a 16x16 area that has plywood all around the bottom with chicken wire up another 5' to keep my barn cats out and two heat lights. The temp is going to be from a low of 48 to highs near 70 for the next week. I have more hatches starting in two days. I need the room. I put 9 of the biggest ones outside about three hours ago. They are huddled right under the light. It's 51 degrees out. Is it to early?

NO! I put mine outside at 2-3 weeks old. Don't care what time of year it is. Well, I am in SC. Never gets below freezing here too much. Even when it dropped below 30 they were fine. I have noticed younger chickens will huddle even when it's 80 outside. It's a protection thing. If it's that warm outside I would, and this is me, take the heat lamps out. Once mine go outside they get no more heat lamps the rest of there life. That's why they are outside. Actually after a week or so I turn the lamps off in the house to start to get them use to the outside.
