YYAAYYAYYAYY big dummies!!! mine are getting stinky!! when can they go outside!! LOL
Assisted 3 more chicks. One didnt make it. ONe is splay legged and isnt getting around very good but is in the brooder with the rest of the chicks. ONe is fine.

Have 3 new turkeys this morning. Had 5 eggs. So 3 aint bad. Its day 28 on them but didnt see movement in the other two. They started pipping yesterday and last night and it seemed that they were to big for their shells and they were drying out, so I removed most of the shell and put ointment on everything that was exposed. Must of worked.

Still have one chick that is trying to hatch. Its got the ointment as well.

So far, I have 8 chicks from shipped eggs and it seems I had better luck with the saddle eggs.(best hatch so far from shipped eggs) The others never pipped and I didnt check them last night. I will tonight before removing them and starting cleaning up. I will have two empty bators and may wait on a lady that is supposed to be supplying me with some peacock eggs.
ohhhhhh peacock!!!! YAY!! I soooo want to hatch one just one!! DH would kill me but someday!!
Almost forgot, Buff Orp Hens are both sitting on 14 or 15 eggs that are supposed to start hatching today and tomorrow respectively. I need to get a bator up to the desired heat and humidity because I think some of the eggs they have may of been laid late by other hens.
Good luck with that! ugggg

Oh Oz, I'm happy you had a nice reunion with the Mrs. Hopefully one day soon you'll all get to settle in together with no more water between ya's!

I read the whole thread....Ummm...Interesting to say the least, and evidently the word breast is not family friendly, LOL!

thanks GMamma

If all goes well we are looking at 11 more months of this. Its almost bearable now we have a fairly solid timeline.

The good news is I leave for the Philippines in a little over a week. I get to celebrate my daughter's 3rd birthday there.

Why am I losing chicks at the hatch. I just candled and had 8 dead fully formed chicks. That makes 10 total out of this hatch. I had two that hadnt hatched yet but had internally pipped. I started assist and one hasnt absorbed the yolk. Any idea why the chicks are dying at hatch and not pipping at all?
what are eggtopsy showing? humidity ventilation?

silver thanks again for the sum up! this thread goes so quick hard to keep up!! Doug congrats on the new babies (all of them) here's hoping for continued success!

heres a vid of the 3 little ones hatched yesterday and last night...

I'll put this out here: Chick hatched 1 day early but legs are out in front-side and she's sitting on her bum, can't seem to get up on her legs...what to do?

I have auto turner
humidity- I keep around 30 until lockdown when I increase to 70ish
temps to low- I try to keep my forced air at 100 and my still air at 102
hatch temp-same bator-same temp
Eggs too cold-could that be when Im checking eggs during the hatch after Ive removed several chicks?
Nutritional deficiencies, hereditary, embryological develop, and breeder disease-Several different breeders, I have some of all my eggs but mostly this just happens with shipped eggs. but again, several different breeders.
ventilitation-I keep the vents open and open frequently to check things.
Eggs are usually 6 to 7 days old when I set them.

Can you see a problem with any of my answers. Its been really frustrating opening eggs with fully developed chicks. Most have not absorbed the yolk sack but some have. If I can get this problem figured out, I can have some awesome hatches. Im guessing they are dying in the last 3 days. When I lockdown, I pull the turner out and set it down and remove the eggs one by one and candle them and make my final removals and fill the reservoirs and lockdown until I have a bator full of chicks to put into the brooder.

Doug, I got list of possible causes, you'll have to work your way through them and see which ticks the box(es):

Full term embryo, not pipped could be:

- Inadequate turning
- Humidity too high during incubation
- Incubator temperature too low
- Hatcher temperature too high
- Eggs got too cold at some stage
- Nutritional deficiencies (inadequate nutrients in hen's diet)
- Hereditary
- Embryological development accident
- Breeder disease (i.e. egg from sick hen)
- Inadequate ventilation
- Eggs were stored too long pre-incubation

Hope this helps!
I was waiting to get to the end before I posted the same thing - glad you beat me to it.

Doug

I know you hatch a lot of eggs but your assist rate seems high.

The need for increased assistance correlating with increased death in lock down may indicate you are missing a crucial step. Maybe temps, humidity or ventilation.

Do you keep spreadsheets of your hatches?
Can you isolate any particular incubator?
Have you calibrated thermometers and hygrometers?

I have a question. I keep trying to hatch my BBB eggs and I keep getting to the pea sized disc of blood vessels stage and then nothing. I sent some to emmalyn and she had the same experience. Any thoughts? I think I was sold a very geriatric pair of BBB's. (Buff Brahma Bantams)
