Ok, these eggs are really weird. The double embryo was one of them.

One chick had no blood vessels surrounding it. Huge yolk sac, and active blood vessels around the yolk, but not around the chick. It never internally pipped and it just passed away. Very weird....

When I candled, one of the eggs had internally pipped so I figured I should make a safety hole just in case. When I did so, I saw blood. The inner membrane was in the air cell. The chick was chirping and had air, but it never had to pip the inner membrane. The inner membrane surrounding the chick was acting like the outer membrane. Very very weird....

Out of 8 eggs, there sure are quite a few strange ones. I know that most of her hens are old, could this have anything to do with it?

Oh, and Daisy duck died today. She was a white runner duck and she was Aflac's girlfriend. I have no idea what happened...

She was running around and swimming with the other ducks when I left to go help with the middle school band concert. When I came back an hour later, I found her dead. It wasn't a predator and she appear perfectly healthy...

oh wow I am sorry coch awwww poor daisy!

I am selling my Red Silkie chicks, I have too much going on, change of plans, no silkie breeding. Will sell them all off and keep our white hen and black hen and keep them with the serama.

I never took baby pics, but they were the most gorgeous looking chicks ever, some strange markings and big skulls.
This is now at 3 weeks or so cant think right now..... they will get a deep rusty red

if we were worried about efficiencies, we all need to quit chickens and go to quails. coturnix lay every day startint at 7-8 weeks of age. They require 2lb of feed to make 1lb of egg. Even efficient chickens take 3 lbs of feed to make 1 lb of egg.

but the question is.... are they cute?

I think beyond keeping them upright and humidity and temp level she will do fine !! anyone else chimed in on this yet ?!? i will check

motorcyclechick asked if a sloshing egg meant scramble?

chicksooner said sloshing looked like waves - foamy bubbles included- and suggested keeping it upright and make sure to check it for weeping

sumi had not heard from 3D either
and asked sally to be a little more patient with the brahmas as did cochins

sally and Dh were making stuffed cabbage and she said it smelled yummy

cochins just got back from a camping trip and has a bunch of eggs going into lockdown including a dropped one from day 12 that still seems to be kicking it

chicknfun dropped in andsaid good morning and ask that anyone with ducks would plase drop by her thread and give suggestions - https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/768324/chat-n-chicknfun-thread/2230#post_11232237

chicksooner sent prayers to the people in Shawnee, Ok who were hit hard by the storms

chicknfun asked What kind of chicken is the best layer and consumes the least food?
And, If you move chickens to a new coop is it normal for them to slow down on laying ?
personal opinion ...yes a move can make them slow down some

rusty asked if its possible to hatch geese and chicken eggs together
I say yes .. i have done ducks andchickens ok together and cody did some of a lot of birds together
and cochins is doing this right now - geese and chickens together

cochins suggested sex links or purebreds like longhoens in answer to chicknfuns question
and agreed that yes the change could have thrown laying off

Sally hatched several of chads with minor cracks and chips
she just kept the humidity a tad higher

chickenpoop lady candled and has 12/14 developing !!!

sally and gardening mama have family's that like the stuffed cabbage dish and perogies... I like perogies myself and had never trtied them before moving to PA

and asked if sally sealed the cracks and how high on the humidity

gardeningmama is gonna let DD try sally's recipe today when she gets home as she loves to bake

sally said she upped the humidity for 60 for the cracked ones and will seal with tape next time as oz suggested

pogmobum ased
Hey hoping someone can help me, i had a chicken die the last day because i couldnt figure out what was wrong with it now two more are showing the same symptoms,

1. Stopped laying eggs.
2. Watery poo
3. Droopy tail feathers
4. The chicken gets very quiet almost seems tame and doesn't move to much and is fluffed up

These are the symptoms in the order i noticed them happening.

They aren't egg bound because i couldn't feel anything.
They are new chickens i bought in a farmers market a wile ago.

Any help is much appreciated, thanks.

and sally has a serema egg that is taing forever

el pollo rey also suggested white leghorns for chicknfun

chicksooner suggested pog treat for cocci

aww and posted a pic of broody hen and the babies - post 16209

Sally I am not sure if watery crops have to do with Cocci but do know there are some types where there is no blood in the poo

cochins had some weir eggs in this batch and ask if the hens being older could have something to do with it
and oh no daisy duck died today

sally is selling the red silkies as well ... so pretty

Secretary Silver

p.s. we have 3 JGs out and well . Plus 1 that had to be assisted and took awhile absorbing the yolk but seems to be ok ( one of the scrambled eggs so that might be why) and a fresh wet jG in the bator that looks like it may be grey (blue) as well as 4 more JG pipped (all 5 of those are a day early) and one OE pipped as well !!!!

Checking in. I think they are up to 20 kids dead in Moore. Not sure how many of them are from the elem. that was leveled. 51 total deaths. I keep telling myself that I am blessed but my heart breaks for those families.

Ok serious broody nonsense going on in my coop. Found 2 girls in the community nest box. Broody #2 who was on golf balls found 3 eggs one of which must have broken as she had 2 under her and yolk everywhere. Broody #3 took over the golf balls. Both girls are on the roost tonight and I moved everything around. If they find the eggs they can hatch them.

I moved the rest of my 3 month olds in. Going to start figuring out who goes and who stays from that group.

Hugs to you Sally!
