How many eggs do you need still? LOL 300 is a lot, but it would be awesome if you could pull that one off. Poor Bernie would have his hands full though, with all those chicks. But it sounds like he's enjoying this.
because the adoptions appear on the fact track. i need to accelerate the program. 120 are cotornix so they almost dont count lol

some breeds i expect wont make it,

how many is enough? my goal is to finally end up with 6-10 breeds of chickens that do well in the Philippine climate. I will keep 2 roos and 7 girls in each breed. they will be the basis of my live bird breeding for sale program.
.
any extra will be sold as trios or become layers or dinner.i can sell eggs at $2 doz. maybe more for bcm. 40 layers is enough 2-3 doz eggs a day will pay for the feed.

the quail eggs are also very popular there. 1 buck a doz 6 doz a day is the goal.

the spent birds sell too. i can get 3-10 dollars for old birds in the local market

I will grow turkeys and geese to sell at christmas,

the peafowl are to look pretty on my lawn and guineas to eat bugs and rodents

and bernie is loving it. looking after 100 chicks is not that much harder than 40.

$10 a day will make a massive difference to bernie

I'm glad to hear that :) And yeah, quail, let's see, I think 2 eggs can count as 1, since they're so small LOL

It sounds like you got it worked out well. What are you going to do when the adoption's final? Are you still going to divide your time between the 2 countries and let Bernie manage the chickens?

yes. the chickens will pay or bernies salary. my share of profit will pay property taxes and maintenance

hmm... There are lots of good egg laying breeds that consume less feed. Not sure which ones are best. Probably the sex-linked like gold stars, comets, and etc... also purebreds such as leghorns. I'm sure there are many more, but those are the ones that come to mind.

and yeah, it's normal for production to decrease after a move.

X2. Leghorns are laying machines!!! They are just mess eaters though. They bill and stand in the feed. The FF is great for them. They can't scratch it out.

I am not so sure it was a good thing to fall into, Brahma are a pain now that I have so many other breeds, they eat poop eat poop eat poop on and on and do nothing else but look pretty! ugggggg

I'm thinking of moving my Production Reds back in the back after the hen side is done and moving the Light Brahmas in there area by themselves. They are only 3 months old and are as big as the Production Reds already. They are a bit pecky at the 3 month old HRIR and leghorns who aren't as big as they are.

Survived the night. It was a rough night for the mid west. I spent the last 2 days cleaning out the garage so I could get my car in. I was prepared except for the whole where will we hide thing. Every spring I swear we are going to get a storm shelter. I have been in Oklahoma for 13 years and am originally from Texas. So I have seen a few storms. Prayers for the people of Shawnee, OK where they were hit pretty hard.

I am off to try and break a broody or give her something besides golf balls...

Golf balls won't do it. Will make them sit even more. They think there eggs. Only way to break a broody is to put her in to iso camp for 2 days. No straw or anything she can make a nest of of. Mine are on bare ground while I do this. After 2 days she will be fine.

Hey hoping someone can help me, i had a chicken die the last day because i couldnt figure out what was wrong with it now two more are showing the same symptoms,

1. Stopped laying eggs.
2. Watery poo
3. Droopy tail feathers
4. The chicken gets very quiet almost seems tame and doesn't move to much and is fluffed up

These are the symptoms in the order i noticed them happening.

They aren't egg bound because i couldn't feel anything.
They are new chickens i bought in a farmers market a wile ago.

Any help is much appreciated, thanks.

The farmer market is the problem. Every time I buy a chicken from our flee market this is what happens. Chickens will get stressed over the move and sitting in those metal cages for any period of time. Being transported in an open air vehicle will also make them ill. Also you have no idea usually how they were raised, what feed they were eating etc etc. Do they have runny noses, eyes swelling etc?

Ugh... that rooster is a nut job. He spends way too much time making noise and misses out on all the treats. He seriously is insane. I don't like him but my daughter does. He's mean and goes for my head any time I bend over. He's one more aerial attack away from the soup pot.

First attack and they have a beer can up there butt and on the grill!!
