I knew some would come along with answers. Hey where's Sally been. I hope all is well with her family

Hatching, hatching, hatching! LOL just caught up with everyone...hope everyones hatches are going well...still waiting to go into lockdown on 8 of my own blue andy eggs.
added 8 giant cochin eggs for a friend, she is trying to train her buff orp to be momma but no luck as yet.. I found the new hiding place of where the hens were laying their eggs half buried in the shavings I sprinkled under the juniper tree! LOL they are so funny, one of the hens went back after I gathered them up and searched and squawked, kinda felt bad but not really...egg hunting all year long! well till I finish the nesting box for the pen anyway.

Question, the farm store here has been out of medicated chick feed for almost two weeks. I have my 5 week old chicks on corid right now, but what do I do about my new chicks? Are they too young for a preventive corid treatment? They are 3-5 days old. The guy doesn't know when they will get it back in stock... sort of acted like well...this is the season to run out. Then maybe they should stock up?

Doing a dry hatch works, start at about 35% humidity and don't let it go below 26%....add a tablespoon of water at a time when it goes below. On day 18 bump it up to 65% to 70%. SallySunshine has great articles check them out.

I personally don't use medicated feed. Do you have a TSC in your area, they carry it.

I added just a touch of water and Im at 74%. I took the lid off to let some escape and Im down to 67%. I am in lockdown. Thinking about going out and removing all the water, although I don't have very much in it.

Sorry that I haven't posted much lately. We were camping for Memorial Day Weekend.

Doug - Sorry about all of the dead chicks. I don't have any advice, but I will tell you that this has happened to me twice before. Both times involved shipped eggs and I have no idea why it happened. I don't believe that I had any problems with humidity, but just like you, I had a ton of fully formed wet chicks that never internally pipped. I decided that I must have gotten weak chicks due to poor parent nutrition, but I'm really not sure.

Sally - I just wanted to say that I've been thinking about you. I hope that all is well. We miss you!

and since it looks like no one has posted this. Happy Memorial Day! I hope that everyone had a great weekend!

Remember my 120degree spike eggs. I'm putting 48 out of 83 into lockdown tomorrow. Going to get new batteries tomorrow as my candler is getting dim. That total might change after tomorrow's candle.

Awesome!

I have 15 Gold Neck and Mille Fleur d'Uccles, cooking right now they were shipped eggs and she did a great job with sending them, this is what I got going from 18 eggs, and I let them sit for close to 5 days before setting. I can't wait I've been looking for Gold Necks for a long time, so excited.

Yay!

Have you read this: https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/how-to-incubate-hatch-eggs-using-the-dry-incubation-method?

I'd suggest lowering the lockdown humidity to around 65%. I agree, if there was water in the shell the humidity was too high at some point.

Here's another good read on humidity:

Doug - Do you ever weigh your eggs? If it is a humidity issue, why not try weighing them once? It can be a pain, but I believe it's the most accurate way to monitor egg weight loss.
