i thought i read somewhere that guineas are more "wild" than regular chickens and don't even want a coop..is this true?

pretty much - and thats why they need a coop with a covered run - along with chukars, pheasants and peafowl.

I will eventually free range part of my flock of guineas. I will need to build it up first - so it wont be till late next year. They need to be trained to return to the coop at night. They prefer to hide their eggs so you have to let them out after lunch - they lay most of their eggs in the morning.

The upside is they love bugs and rodents. Two things I have no shortage of.
