You know what else is funny... As I collected the eggs, I numbered them 1 - 14. The egg numbers that are viable are numbers 1-6. Interesting....

The candle picture looks normal. You wont see the air cell for another day or so and then you will have to put the light on the side of the egg to see the cell.

Oh and my rooster is not even a year old yet and he is only hitting his target about 50% of the time. I think he is still trying to get things figured out. So if you have young birds that could be the reason for the fertility rate.

They were in different places in the incubator. I grouped them together after I candled them. She's actually a Colored Dorking. I love her, we have coffee & oats on the weekend mornings. She waits at the sliding glass door for me. Her name is Athena, hopefully a proud mama soon. Two of her eggs in the bator are fertile. Woo hoo!

Thanks Chicksooner... That just might explain it. My birds are 9 months old. Guess he may have had a few more misses than hits. Oops! He sure is proud of himself though. He he he

I still don't have any pips. There are only 6 hours left of day 22, and I think they all might just be dead. When should I intervene? I have been doing the dry hatch method, and I fear they might be stuck in the shells, unable to pip or something. I have no movement or sounds coming from the eggs. Could they all be dead?

Candle them and check for internal pips, if you don't see any hold the eggs, one by one, snug against your ear and tap them with your fingernail. If there's a live chick in there it should respond by moving or tapping from the inside. I've done this a few times to check egg viability and it's so cool when you hear the chick "answer" from inside. If they're still alive and they pipped internally make a small hole on the fat end of the egg so they can breathe. If they haven't made progress after a few more hours I think it's time you investigate. Have you read through the "helping a chick hatch" thread?

I might have, but I'll read through it again when the time comes. Thank you. I will try and candle one now... What if there are no internal pips and they're alive. Do I just leave them, or do I poke a hole at the end?
