But I'm being patient.

it's hard to be patient but it is the best thing to do.

Im not so patient. I just candled the remaining eggs and saw no movement in three of them. Dead fully developed chicks that had absorbed the yolk but only internally pipped. Then I had 3 more that had internally pipped and were alive. None were positioned correctly so I removed a lot of the shell and put ointment on them. I had one that was moving but hadn't pipped and had a lot of water in the shell. I tried to remove the water. I saw it try a breath then it died. It drowned. So I have 3 chicks that are still in the inner membrane but no shell and are chirping. I put 4 in the brooder. I have fingers crossed for 3 more. That would be 7 out of 11 for these shipped eggs. That would be awesome. At least I have 4 anyway.
Doug, I hope those others make it too!!!! That would make for an egg-cellent shipping egg hatch rate. And if you only get the 4, that would be average. All I hatch are shipped eggs, I don't know anyone around here who sells hatching eggs locally.

My experience with broodies and bators are they generally hatch about the same time. My good broodies happily take all the chicks I give for 2-3 days. I pushed my last one to 4 days. She gave me a pretty disgusted look and went back to her nest and called everyone to her. I wouldn't trust a new broody with eggs or chicks I was really counting on.
just make sure you are getting a really good angle with the book.
:fl

I am crossing my fingers and toes that they all hatch pretty close and all works out! Thanks so much for your help! My one broody is experienced and perfect and is too stubborn about her eggs but then my one momma who sat one some a few months ago did great but never hatched hers out bc of a broody fight between the two of them :/ lesson learned and this time there completely seperated and secluded but she only has two...there developing but I don't know how she's going to be about "lockdown" bc she LOVES her breaks. Im REally hoping Mother Nature kicks in on day 18 and she lays on those bad boys until they hatch!

I am off to take a few eggs on a 7500 mile journey on Wednesday.

I get to spend 10 days with my kids and Mrs Oz

Its so hot here in SoCal that I am not taking local eggs. I figure 105 degrees wont bode well.

I have been thinking about my hatches. I have had so many not get out of the shell. They are big and wet. They are also hatching early. I am going to add the dehumidifier to the incubator and also lower the temp in the incubator by 0.5C I am currently running 38C {100.4) and will drop to 37.5C or 99.5. The extra day hatching may allow for just a few drops of water to evaporate.

Ok so we found a cooler at a yard sale today for a buck so we are gonna make the home made bator for next hatch the eggs are in lockdown tonight in the mean time I'm trying to up the humidity

I read a few posts up somewhere or a few pages back that using feminine pads is an excellent way to boost humidity. Soak them and stick them in. Try to shoot for 65%.

I use little dog crates. A month ago I had them scattered all around in my coop as it seemed everyone went broody all at once. I ran out of places to stuff them. I am all for broodys doing the hard work.

i will be most excited when the local pullets i have in my overseas coop go broody. They are 5 months old now but so small compared to the immigrants girls. God only knows when they will start laying.
