settled in for now. Lost a bunch, see below. Got girls on eggs some silkies in the brooder and 60 eggs in the bator currently

Lost 6 birds in the move and a fox got another 6. main losses came from psycho ex landlord. poisoned off 76 birds, 3 dogs 2 puppies a goat and one of our horses. I was away from the house for about a month dealing with my brothers dads death, land lord got ****** i caught him charging us rent when the house had been foreclosed on and sold... real nightmare of a mess

When I first got chickens, our singer was like, "You .......chickens???!!

" HAHAHA I was like, I'm real not that crazy person you see out every night playing. Well sort of....lol. But I'm actually just a country boy. Catching and raising, foxes, ravens, raccoons, chickens. Etc etc. As a kid. Spent all my life in the woods hunting and fishing. Music is just the other half of me. Unfortunately, that's what most people see. HAHAHAHA They don't see my mellow side at home with the wife and chickens.

it has been 5 months since i hatched on ground hog day of this year.

i was disappointed with my low hatch rate after shipping.

i got 7 chicks from about 40+ eggs.

HOWEVER

i'm now pretty sure of the sexes AND

I GOT MOSTLY FEMALES

I GOT 6 females and ONLY 1 male

strange, eh? just thought i'd report this.

that is like having a bigger hatch rate (for those who really want hens!)

i don't know if it was just luck or if other people have found that shipped eggs come out this way

shipped to Massachusetts in february...so maybe up against cold...and of course rough handling...

I am so happy you have the perfect numbers@!@@ but I would love to see them too!!!

Ok here's where we are out of the original 25 eggs 8 are alive out of those 8 ,3 are haveing a little trouble getting their legs I only had to help one hatch and it seams stronger then the other two the rest of the eggs where dead fully formed chicks just dead no idea temp was fine humidity was fine I consider it a success now we do it all over again on the 6th it will be lockdown for the other 30 od chicks so luck to me ill be candling in a day or so hoping to see lots of movement!

did you take eggtopsy images? would love to see the chicks! did you give electrolites? see bottom of hatching 101 article

She came running up the back porch hopped on the hot tub and we were yapping and I look over and just had to burst in a giggle, she was like "what mom" I had to share her loveliness! he he he My lil chicken hen of a daughter!
