Help everyone, I have a wiley rat living under my brooder house that is attached to my chicken coop, and it is digging holes under the coop part, it is very smart. I put rat bait in its holes leading under the brooder house, thinking it would take it in and eat it, NO I got up late this morning (first day of in a month) and found the bait in the chicken coop, like he was saying "I will show you b****, here chicky chicky have a treat." I was mortified, I'm not sure if anyone other then the rat and its kids ate it or if my turkey poult got it, since it was sluggish this morning and looking sickly. It has evaded traps, now what can I do?

most rat poisons work by thinning their blood. check the active ingredient in yours to make sure, if it does administer vitamin k as a shot if you can, this works against the anticoagulant in rat poison.

good sources of vitamin k are basically what we call "greens" - collard, spinach, kale, etc.

I have never had this happen, someone who has will have better advice. this is just something to get you started.

I cant tell how it actually looks, it looks like the inner membrane is intact?

NOt sure myself if its intact .. but i think It might be
Doesnt look gooey or opaque but dont see actual fuzz sticking up but no blood no goo so might be ok if I didnt break something on him. They are due to hatch any minute
I still see him breathing but isn't making an attempt to hatch but neither are his cohearts
. My Los tend to pip late after noon or night of day 22...go figure.
This is day 22...

Sounds like a good idea ! Vitamin K but will they eat if they feel sick... the thing is if hes ingested it a while ago it thins the blood to the point of hemmoraging all the organs so not much hope and if its the other poison for mice rats it deteriorates the nervous system in the body so breathing and functions stop Pretty lethal stuff.Lets hope they didnt eat it.

Put a medium to big dog in the run. Well I know that would be hard unless they liked chicks but they do kill rats or my Dobies did years ago.Any terrier would do the job happily.
I have the same with mice now but I see a nice little snake has taken up residence there too A bigger one would eat an egg though

its best to do the vitamin k as a shot, but I realize most of us don't keep vitamin k as shots. the greens are more to buy you some time, depending on what shape the birds are in. one thing you do have working for you, that poison is dosed to kill a 2lb rat. a turkey is probably more sensitive to it, but with a little luck the turkey already was high in vitamin k, over eating grass and other greens.

Serama Saloon needs your ideas! We sorta took one step to a theme and it snowballed! I need a spittoon for the porch, a wagon wheel and we are going to get empty whiskey bottles from the Gun Club and do something with the roost above the second chicken entrance that is empty yet, oh and a small fire pit with wood/ash for looks and health, and some logs for the kids to sit on around it. First up is a video and then pics for those that cant see the vid... oh and did I mention I LOVE SKIDS!

Love it!!! What about some rope coiled up and hanging in the wall, child's guns in holster and see if you can find an old cow skull!!!! Make a wanted sign with a pic of your whole family all gussied up in western garb toting the fake gun and a serama egg in your hands. The wanted sign can say wanted for egg stealing.

I see how it is......I don't have an eBay problem....I would blame it on the OJ , but then they would say I have a drinking problem. It's an atmospheric issue. If my body consumes too much special Oj as a result of stress and I do not fall asleep in part to such, then my mind wanders in front of my fingers to Ebay.

I have eggs pipping, 12 due Saturday, 12 due the following Friday. 170 due the Saturday after that,and then chukars the next Monday and 20+ turkey 19 peafowl and I forget how many guineas after that.

I am hoping for a male and female in my quail so they will start laying in 4 weeks and I can start multiplying.
