hi chickadoodles! I am sorry to hear of your chick. Just remember for next time, a chick will pip (tiny chip) and then it will rest for sometimes up to and over 24 hours, you have to give them this rest time to absorb and after this stage is complete they will zip out on their own. So sorry, it depends on the chick and its strength, most times we assist too early the chicks wont make it, but don't give up hope. If the yolk is in deed broken use dental floss dipped in betadine and tie it off and then betadine the entire area of the chick. separate from the others, you can clip the dried yolk sack off after its dried but leave the floss. I would use grow gel or use electrolytes from the hatching 101 article, see towards the bottom... and also first food can be egg yolk cooked gently to give back what that chick needs. do NOT force feed your chick, I always like grow gel because I know I wont drown the chick with liquids, I put a little ball of grow gel in the beak and they can swallow that on their own. Good Luck with your chicky. Keep her warm but don't over or under heat her. https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/hatching-eggs-101Hi I need some help please! My chick started to pip and made a hole in it's shell last night about 6:30 pm and this morning abt. 4:30 I made the hole a little bigger and put it back in the bator. It kept on peeping. Then about 7 am I tried to help it out and chipped away part of the shell. Well the little thing kicked out of the shell and it had not finished it's yolk yet. So I put it back in the bator on the napkin I had it on. Then Ron told me to put it in a tea cup. So I did. But the chick kicked loose from the shell and tore a hole in the yolk sack. I tried pouring sugar on it to stop the leaking but it is not working. I put it back in the bator. Is it going to die?
