if i remember right "bluedogsonly" is one of 2 vets here in the U.S. that decrow roosters. its not something i would have done, but ive been trying to keep up on it. it would allow people who live in the city to maintain a small breeders flock.

i know you do about half of your work in CA, so your the main reason i posted this. unfortunatly thats about all the information on newcastle he mentioned.

I found his thread on de-crowing. Sorry but its not something I would ever do. I would rather spend 1000 bucks on trying to change the ordinance that 250 on surgery on one chook.

I have not looked into NPIP here, but I do not need it yet. I know many people who do though. When he talks of export - he means to other states in US - Interestingly, the only hatchery that will export outside the USA that I can find (and I am no beginner on google) is here.

The Newcastle outbreak was 2003. It makes sense that the state flew in people to address the outbreak - I am not sure what his criticism is.

im with you on not having it done to my flock, heck do the math; i have at least 60 roosters.

but for the person who lives in the city and wants to breed, it could be a good thing. i cant imagine trying to raise chickens inside the city limits, i tried that life for a few months. i guess i just dont understand why when one person mows their yard, why the rest of the neighbors have to mow theirs too. i like living where if i want to pee off my back porch, no one other than my DW will say (or see) a thing. ( i realize that came out wrong, just couldnt figure out how to word it)

edited to add:
sorry i didnt realize that was 2003 when that happened. i guess that would explain why i hadn't heard about it.
