That's a cutie
I live in the suburbs, and in my area I can't have roosters (I can't really have chickens either). The city code says you need a lot over 10,000 square feet to have any livestock, and mine is about 90 sq feet short. I currently have a rooster that I put in the garage at night. We bring him out around 9 in the morning.im with you on not having it done to my flock, heck do the math; i have at least 60 roosters.
but for the person who lives in the city and wants to breed, it could be a good thing. i cant imagine trying to raise chickens inside the city limits, i tried that life for a few months. i guess i just dont understand why when one person mows their yard, why the rest of the neighbors have to mow theirs too. i like living where if i want to pee off my back porch, no one other than my DW will say (or see) a thing. ( i realize that came out wrong, just couldnt figure out how to word it)
edited to add:
sorry i didnt realize that was 2003 when that happened. i guess that would explain why i hadn't heard about it.
I have hatchlings!!![]()
more mutt eggs in the phils. some easter eggers, leghorn/rir/polish crosses. 12 chicks out with some more pipping and zipping
The whole crazy story is laid out in my ever expanding thread linked in my signature but as a few line synopsis.I have probably missed your story on California vs the Philipines. What exactly are you doing between the two sites? I have been reading all your comments and am just curious how it all plays out. I enjoy your comments and expertise. Lynn (Scooter16)
OK, I want my pros to hold my hand and walk me through this one
HERE are my precious Blue Breda shipped eggs. They arrived at my house at 7:20 AM with none broken and have set big end up in an open bottom egg carton for about 15 hours. I was not crazy about the packing job (which I shared with the seller). It was the same as my Barred Rock which so far appear to have only 3 of 14 developing :/ Each egg was carefully wrapped in bubble wrap and paper towel, but they were floating loose in cut newspaper and I guess due to weight distribution they pretty much all had settled with the big end (air cell) down inside the box. I just candled the 18 eggs (appreciate the many extras!) and of the 18 there are three with no air cell that I can detect so don't know if it is scrambled or ?? 6 have detached air cells that form large saddles - some all the way down to the other end of the egg. 1 has a completely rolling air cell. And 8 appear to be pretty good from the looks of it. So what do I do with them? Do I set them all and see what happens by day 10 - or am I asking for another disastrous hatch if I set any but the 8 good looking ones. Step by step - advise me please.
