I am up to 2 broodies now. I thought I was done with spring broodiness. This weather is throwing everyone off.

It's been so warm here this winter, I'm not looking forward to summer at all! I do wish it would rain more though...

i have never had so many broodies as i have this year. i would say close to 30% of my hens have went broody this summer. i knew this was a potential side effect of feeding sorghum seed, i still need to get an accurate count of pullets vs. cockerels. i know last year (first year) i had a slight increase (5-10%) of pullets.

Quote: you need to move to the US. if you dont like the weather here, stick around it will change in 15 mins.

I'd move there for the chickens! That and nearly all my chicken owning friends live there. Is that good enough reasons?

i know you've mentioned coming here, i cant speak for everyone else; but if you were here it would make it a lot easier for me to help you get your dream chickens.

I wish it was that easy though. Just pack up and go! LOL Ugg, this country is frustrating chicken-wise. There is so little here to get exited about. And I cannot believe how hard it is to find duck eggs? I even placed an ad online. No replies.

I'm going to need to get some shipped (courier) from the other side of the country I think.

I have had several people interested from CA. It is actually pretty difficult and what I would consider expensive to legally export poultry out of that state. There is no government funding for the bio-security programs for backyard poultry like in most other states. Also, vet costs are considerably higher. I might be able to get you in touch with somebody that could help with testing to legally export him if you are interested in shipping him.

Interestingly, CA had a pretty severe outbreak of Newcastle's disease which resulted in a mass kill-off of poultry (including backyard flocks) in that state. Poultry vets were flown in from all over the country on short notice to help contain the spread. It's kind of funny that CA has the most lax regulations concerning disease in poultry and seems to have disease issues that other states just don't see. I take this bio-security stuff pretty seriously and I think its good PR that backyard poultry owners do the same. I'll get off of my soap box.

has anyone else heard about this?

I am in CA. Have not heard that.

What is the thread it comes from. I need for context to comment.
