I just started a thread. Does anyone know anything about Marek's disease and it's vaccine?

https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/828878/i-have-some-questions-about-mareks-disease-and-its-vaccine

Great info here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/741957/not-an-emergency-mareks-in-the-flock

What you can also do is send Haunted55 a PM. She's very nice and she's been through a lot with Mareks in her flock, so she KNOWS it, too well actually! She'll be a good one to advice you.

Well, I had an interesting day so far. I went to give the chickens some treats, saw their water bowls were low, so I went out again, collected water, back to the coop, topped up the bowls, chatted with them for a minute and went out again. The door is sticky to open and close and it usually takes me a few seconds every time, so in total I spent a good minute outside that door... I noticed a movement on the ground just as had the door shut the last time. It was a Boomslang and it was not even 2 feet from my bare feet and rapidly moving away, so I'd rather not know how close it was to me before it started moving

And when I think back, I was standing outside that door 3 times... My guardian angel was with me today, that's for sure.

I ran to call DH who helped me look for it but we couldn't find it anywhere. Still haven't, the gardener's been looking also. It just disappeared. I would feel so much better knowing that snake is far from me and mine. I really like snakes, but these guys are so dangerous, I'd rather not have them anywhere our house, my family or my chickens!

I'm so relieved that first of all it didn't bite me and secondly I saw it before it got into the chickens' house. I used to leave the door open a crack for ventilation, with a window open on the opposite side. It would've had no problem going into the coop.

glad you're ok, not a nice snake at all from what i see on tv and read.

Cochins, how's your chick with the broken beak doing?

I left them both in the incubator for 2 days and they looked healthy and active, so I tried giving them to a broody.

I literally looked at the hens and said "ini mini miny mo". My finger landed on Millie (millie fluer cochin bantam hen) so that's who I gave them too. She readily accepted them and she's being a great mother.

The chick with the broken beak is doing good. The beak seems a bit more "attached", but it's only been 4 days. I'll be sure to keep an eye on it.
