this was empty land when we bought it. but its on a county line- neither sheriff's department will do anything about it. its time for me to be known as that crazy guy with the big shotgun and lots of bullets. i have that reputation here - its funny teenagers slow down when they pass my house for fear of what im going to do if they drive fast here.

last summer there was a guy walking down the road, he stopped and talked to my neighbor who was working on his car. this guy was kind of "shifty" looking, so my neighbor warned him about me. he told him that when my dogs bark (especially after dark), i come running out the door with a gun. well sure enough about dark on the same day, he walked back through - my dogs barked and i ran out with a gun. i didnt even make it out the door before i heard him screaming "im your neighbor from down the road, dont shoot!"

i sit out on the front porch with one of my guns about one day a week. while im out there i will stand up and shoot the gun once into the bank by the house. its nice to be thought of as crazy

I ordered a mix of eggs from DMRippy for the NYD hatch a long special. I then ordered some silkie eggs from a friend of mine in Florida. I will also be checking fertility in my own eggs. First year with a rooster. I have FBCMs and americauna eggs i have been collecting. Hoping for some pretty olive eggers and FBCMs chicks out of my eggs.

Quote: I have also hatched her eggs, I was pleased at their condition when I got them, and the chicks were good and healthy, I had sold them very young so I cant say much for the adults. Sounds like an interesting set and what a cute hatch you will have!

I have seen this enough, Finally doing it with the kids tonight after three years lol! ps it took a whole minute to find a glass, egg and vinegar to do it with them DOH!

Woot! The second shipment of eggs has arrived, 15 BLRWs. None were broken, and only 2 appear to have detached air cells. Given that they were all in the same package, I think I'm going to treat them ALL as detached...what do you think? (ie not turning for the first 48hrs, not removing to candle) They are resting and acclimating until tomorrow.. set day!

I don't think its the four daughters that would push me over the edge. The one bathroom with four daughters would be the tipping point.

I am having a horrible hatch. I ordered a couple dozen sizzle/silkie eggs from a reputable seller and they seemed to be developing beautifully with really nicely shaped air cells. I did a dry hatch because I usually have serious issues with silkies being too wet from shipped eggs. I really thought I nailed it. I had like 15 eggs make it to lockdown. The day I went to put them into lockdown, they started to hatch! One hatched and died before making it out and when I eggtopsied: Too Wet again, it probably managed to pip early just to get some oxygen and then it died from fluid in its lungs. I had another one pip and I opened it up and turned it upside down to clear fluid from its lungs and it took a couple of days with it sitting in the egg while it absorbed the yolk, but its in the brooder now, doing well. I decided to pip for all of them and they were all shrink wrapped, but too wet under the shrink wrap. I managed to get another one to absorb the yolk and its in the brooder, but kind of weak, it is trying to run around with the others, but hasn't opened its eyes, I'm not sure if this is just because its premature and its eyes aren't developed to the point of opening. I have another one that seems to be making it, it was a jelly-filled egg that was mal-positioned, but I opened it down to the air cell attachment and kept wetting the membrane with aloe juice and eventually It got into the correct position and pipped through the membrane. It has absorbed the yolk, but still has a large, active umbilicus so I am keeping an eye on it to make sure it doesn't develop omphallitis, but it is just so weak. I can't believe that I'm probably going to end up with only one or two chicks from two dozen eggs. NEVER HATCHING SILKIES FROM SHIPPED EGGS AGIAN! I am so tired of these problems, and its only with silkies.

On a lighter note, had a muscovy for thanksgiving. I fed him up on sunflower seeds and peanuts (in addition to his flockraiser) and the flavor was awesome. He was my last meat duck, the koi will be glad to be getting their fish food in the pond again. I had stopped throwing feed to the fish because I didn't want the Thanksgiving bird to eat and taste like yucky fish food. Oh the indigestion though!

Keep your eyes open for a breeder of Show quality Blue Andalusians for me, MUST BE NPIP PT & AI clean! : ) I want to order some chicks come spring. Thanks!
