Hello all I'm new and was hoping to join your thread. I ordered eggs on Monday and they are supposed to be shipping out tomorrow (I will receive a confirmation e -mail tomorrow. I only ordered six eggs and I think they are coming from Tennessee and I live in Arizona. So Agh! Probably should have shopped around a bit more.

I read the first pages on this post and I feel more confident that some will hatch. So happy I found this site everyone is so helpful.

I have two questions at this time. . . First do you sanitize your incubator for the first use? Mine has never been used before so there isn't bacteria from eggs or chicks but could the packaging have any? And second do I need to use distilled water? Again I'm like worried about having a nice clean environment for those eggs and crossing my fingers chicks.
Hi, glad you joined us!

I didn't sanitise my incubator and I just wash it carefully between uses. It's important that your hands are clean when you handle the eggs, for example when you turn them.

I use clean tap water in the incubator.

Have you read Sally's hatching article? It's got all the most important info in a nutshell. If you have any more questions, you're welcome to ask them here.

Hopefully I can get some Wyandotte eggs from a local breeder and some Faverolles from my own birds. The only problem is that I only have a little Brinsea Mini Advanced and it can only take seven eggs at a time. I might have to use a friend's incubator if I want to do both at the same time.

Okay what is she hatching? =)
seven eggs! and you havent made your own incubator yet! Both breeds sound like a good plan, and local eggs you should get a great hatch rate too!

I think everyone answered, however, The updated incubation information in THIS Hatching 101 article, because the first post of this thread cannot be edited after so many days so thats old shtuff! Please refer to all incubation sections int the Hatching 101 article BEFORE you start your incubation process and depending on your incubator type and location you may not need water in the bator for the first week/weeks! We are here to help you out! Its a long read but filled with info that will help you get the best results possible with shipped eggs

Good Luck and Welcome!

Candled my eggs yesterday and I'm on day 15... Eggs seem to be "sloshy" if that makes sense. Had a problem with the stupid styro bator. My temp was at 105 for about 15-20 mins!! Eek!!

I still see vaining but I'm afraid they may be dead. Should I let them continue and then check on day 18 b4 lockdown? So upset. I've never had my heat get to high.
How is it going? candle again?

Dolfi let me know how Princess "P" Polish is doing please!!! If that mass is drying up, I would just let it if its not holding her down, it will fall off is she is moving around, but if she is catching it on stuff may need to rethink tying it off before cutting...

Harmony and I had a good cry last night.....

I received the sweetest card from Doc O's Vet office and notes from all his girls , I bawled my eyes out when this fell out of the card....

RIP Jasper

We have a few more pips in the bator from the CCL but no brahma are.... very odd, last two hatches the brahma ran first!!! <throws hands in air wondering if she will ever figure this out!>

Thanks! I'm going to start up my incubator today so it will be running for about four days before I add eggs. I have a little gaint with the fan and automatic egg turner. I'm planning on letting my eggs rest in the turner since it looksjust like an egg carton the way the eggs wwill be positioned. Yay!

We have three CCL out! I think they are girls too! just like that! first pips was last evening. Two are allready fluffed so I quickly gave them a milk jug cap full of grow gel and made sure the sponges were wet enough yet... But still not a pip on a single brahma! How strange! I am irked that I cant figure stuff like this out! Something triggered them more than the brahma hmmmmmmm
