Quote: Its the cheapest model Farm Inovators crap and Chads I dont know what his is, almost same as mine but thicker styro.....

I keep getting screwed up temps because the room wont stay constant, this winter is freezing in the house upstairs and then DH turns the vent open on the coal stove and doesnt tell me and before I realize it, its 15 degrees warmer down there or cooler. The Coolers we made with wafers dont flux at all with temp changes down there. I have both coolers packed full and was going to move these eggs from the styro over to hatch in the coolers once the one coolers eggs are hatched.

I have had enough of trying to do this, I am so upset at myself, I knew it to, just knew it. And we are so needing some of this to work out right now! Feed is killing us, we need coal and I fear I will need to start selling some stuff off. Its one thing after another, first eggs, then molt, then eggs, then winter and now incubating.

I am going to make a cooler again this weekend, its simple and fast I have everything and I can have it up and running asap. And this will buy me time to order and have the shipment of a darn cabinet from Gqf I am done messing around, decisions made today, people have orders with me and I am screwing them up again. It wont work like this if I am going to do this I need reliable incubator or I will never get to shipping chicks on mondays, one that I can control, one that turns properly.... oh gawd I am so upset seriously frustrating at this point....

In thinking, will a cabinet incubator flux like the dumb styros? or is the wafer that keeps them up to temps so perfectly all in themselves? Perhaps I have the best I can in the situation I have??? with coolers????

OMG that would be my luck, spend 800 bucks and get something that dont work anyways.... life story

I find the wafer a better thermostat that the one in farm innovators but its the combination of a small wattage heat source, a small size bator and lack of insulation that make them volatile.

You should have no problems with a cabinet. the heater is 7x stronger than the 30 watts in the styros.

You need to talk to someone that has one of the newer models to find if they will hold temperature properly. They have enough heat capability to maintain a constant temperature even if the room temperature drops 10°F.

My GQF 1202 is over 20 years old and I was constantly fidgeting with the temperature adjustment because while it would hold a constant temperature, if the room heated up the incubator would heat up and if the room cooled down the incubator would cool down and the adjustment knob required really tiny moves. I replaced the factory controller with a Spyder controller and now I digitally set the temperature and forget about it. If the room cools off to 63°F the incubator is still running at 99.5°F at around 55% output so still plenty of heating capability remaining. If the room warms up, the Spyder just drops the output and the incubator stays at 99.5°F.

I also added the humidity control system that is basically a 5 gallon bucket of water feeding a float level operated tray inside the incubator and now it is just put the eggs in and forget about it until lockdown.

I would expect the new digital models to react the same way, but since I only have an old one, I can't verify that.

Good luck, Bob

Sally:

Why are you so against a digital thermostat?

The product I use is brilliant. You basically never have to look at a thermometer again.

I even have one on a farm innovators styro and it holds temp extremely well.
I am not against digital I just know that the wafers are perfect so I have an issue messing with something that I am already finding only perfection with

u installed the thermostat in a styro bator too?

Broody hell! These girls are not understanding that I need their eggs. Thankfully I had snow banks to toss them into. 1 girl was persistent so I had to lock her up away from everyone else. The one that I let sit a month ago is still sitting because her eggs didn't hatch. I gave her a fresh chick this morning so hopefully she gets back to business soon too. If it was warmer and I was done hatching I would let the broodies go to town. Ridiculous!
