We candled duck eggs last night, We have 66% with visible viability. It was just day 4 so we wont toss clears till day 10 but I like 66% starting. If I can convert that to a 55% hatch I will be over the moon!!

white chicken eggs will be prelim candled today. browns and turkey on day 7

I had no clue that there were so many colored leghorns!

polish?

Awesome on the ducks as well as the progression of the chicken eggs!

Tell me Oz, is bernie becoming as enthralled with chicken hatching as we are? me thinks he is if he is candling day 4

this is a very exciting hatch for us as its the first shipped hatch after we fixed the humidity issue. Knowing duck eggs light up so well, I asked Bernie to candle so its my fault.

In Britain, the Leghorn Club recognises eighteen colours: golden duckwing, silver duckwing, partridge, brown, buff, exchequer, Columbian, pyle, white, black, blue, mottled, cuckoo, blue-red, lavender, red, crele and buff Columbian.

Polish.... I have had requests for ornamental chicken varieties.

Interesting to know that perhaps my on off heat light source has other uses besides heat!

Abstract

Light stimulation during incubation can affect the behavior, health, and performance of poultry post-hatch.
These results confirm the importance of light stimulation during incubation on the later behavior and physiology of broiler chickens, but also indicate that providing light only during the last week of incubation, which would coincide with the maximum light stimulation provided by hens’ excursions from the nest, is insufficient to produce these effects.
