It has a long string attached to it do I just leave it? I am not wanting to open the incubator but am worried about this little one.

Also I have another the first onr to actually pip and its not zipping just making a bigger and bigger circle/hole on top it looks tired and disoriented but again am not wanting to open I've got four other eggs pipped right now. Please help.

no need to panic, let them hatch! that little one running around will help the others to hatch with its chirping and moving around and bumping eggs. sorta like a big brother! lol

you can grab when you have a few out and they are dry, chicks dont like to be alone in the brooder!

That's great! Your new cooler-bator is so... huge! I just got another wine cooler to convert, and best of all my egg turners fit into it! I can't wait to have a cat-proof incubator

NestingHillsSC, do you have any idea what would cause a chick to be fully developed and ready to hatch but not of soaked up the yolk sac and end up dying? It blows my mind and scares me all of the things that can go wrong at the last minute after you've done every thing right for 21 days (an excruciating wait). I think I'm on day 10 of my first batch ever and wondering whatever possessed me to think I could do this! Sorry you lost your babies.

Tony this chick you speak of came out of the shell unassisted? I have only seen one come out on its own with a broken sack. We do see this alot with assists and then the chick is released way too soon and hasnt had its time to rest and absorb the 12/24 hours after it externally pips. I have heard that high heat can also cause yolk issues. you know the break out anaylsis links are in the 101 article.

sonoralinda! dont panic, you can only read and re read to make sure you do what needs done to the best of your ability! This is to be fun and such an amazing process! try to enjoy and not stress!

No. Sill in the shell. I cracked a few open that didn't hatch. I figure either high temp or humidity or both.

And sonoralinda, i agree with Sally. Have fun and enjoy the experience And not sure what happened with mine. Always have a few like that.
