Diary & Notes ~ Air Cell Detatched SHIPPED Chicken Eggs for incubation and hatching

We candled and removed 14 eggs from the new Cabinet Coolerbator (RED SHARPIE COLOR CODED EGGS) and put them into lockdown in the reg coolerbator day 17, they look strong, there are 7 Layer mix eggs and 7 CCL eggs. One of the Layer eggs looks strange to me, it is alive but the air cell seems all weird and zigzagged for some reason. This was not noted at any other candles.

HOWEVER, Air cells look too small, not a drop of water had been added to the cabinetbator, praying they loose more until hatch. I will continue incubating dry until I notice first internal pips, I will candle several times a day starting Tomorrow, Day 18. When I see an internal I will up humidity.

We also candled the Blue eggs in the incubator, we had to throw out two more of Harmonys shipped silkies with the terrible air cells. Two silkies remain but are extremely bad and mishaped air cells. All other eggs look great, we threw one clear Brahma and one clear CCL out.

So far the cabinet is awesome!! Very Very pleased!!

Glad that most of it is working out. To bad about the silkies though.

How was the humidity ??? With the high number of eggs, it could have been a little high... Do you have a few more small air vent holes you can open to reduce the humidity maybe 3-5% to help with the evaporation to help with the air cells ??

More eggs in the bator means more humidity.... More humidity in the atmosphere means more humidity in the bator...

New guy Dave that don't know squat... Just employing physics.....

Quote: it said 17-22 in the bator as well as out of the bator. the side holes are all open. plenty of flow, its this wet winter I guess. just doesnt make sense with the coal stove and such low humidity down there. who knows if I will ever figure it out! I refuse to run a dehumidifier in the winter with a coal stove running I can tell you that lol! Everyone was having issues this winter, last hatch finally did good with weight loss in the end, praying this set does the same.

As you wait for me to get home, get pics, and upload this can you think on this question. Since I have a staggered hatch could I use my cardboard box incubator as a hatcher? I know now how to keep the temps stable and can get the humidity up.

You can use anything if you have stable heat and humidity needed!

A few 3 day old serama chicks from HarmonyAnn our daughters frizzle project birds! I am so in love with a few of them, already see three frizzles!

I looked up the rules for shipping eggs in Canada and it says nothing about a license, just that you have to have the packaged a certain way and the post service won't be responsible for any damage.
