Sally, love your babies on the roost. How high off the floor of the cage is their roost? Is the roost around 3/4" across? I want to make one for my expected babies.

That is a little roost in the light box for photos <giggles>

I dont bother putting roost in the boxes since most chicks are sold within a week.

I would only keep it an inch or twoabove the shavings to start and then move as they grow. or you can always provide a ramp.
 
Sally do you know where I can get my hands on the foam used for shipping eggs? I think I might have my egg supplier talked into shipping but I am going to send her everything set to where all she has to do is insert the eggs. :)
 




Day 20 one chick is out, five pips also! and two in the few CCL that I put in with them!

looking good! strong and healthy!

CCL ROO mutts.... Light Brahma hen and our BR hens eggs are huge so the chicks are in turn giants! I swear they are as large as a turkey at hatch! We are hatching their eggs for a friend who wants good layers with big eggs. I must weight their eggs, but my digital small pocket scale needs a weird battery.

I swear its the FF they had when they were beginning to lay! I must start my batches back up! Just got more ACV and will start as soon as I can drag in a bag of 100lb feed.

Note this chick doesnt have foot or leg feathers like its mama brahma, and it has a straight comb

genetics is so confusing! but its always cool to see these "mutts" older!

I will get pictures of them as adults, a lady has been hatching them for some time and will soon have her "CRESTED BARRED ROCKS" laying and will tell me of egg color too! so fun, the roos are beautiful! She says the light brahma mutt chicks look just like a CCL hen but very light in color, same barring just lighter and the crest isnt as prominent. She sent me pics but I need to get her to take some close up clear ones and I can share them!
