Um, I haven't found one that works well! I went by the suggestion of tracking weight and air cell development to figure out what humidity level, according to my worthless hygrometers, worked best for my environment!

Haha well that's my point...today i started monitoring the air cell although its about too late on these ..one week to go!..
Weighing ill never did that at all. Im way too disorganized Ill never remember when to do it to tell or how much they should have lost etc.

I have gone back and forth about shipping chicks/juveniles.. But I get stressed enough packing and sending eggs!

your chicks are at/almost to their new home! BTW, does anyone have any suggestions for people who sell Silkie hatching eggs and have many varieties?

Do you mean where to sell or ship eggs?

This thread has the most wise people on BYC so please help me.. Im so frustrated.

. WHAT is the best hygro meter to use...?.
..
Calibrated each hygrometer I own including the brand new one All were off. New was just off 4 degrees STILL... the thermometer on it is outrageous says 106 when my scientific calibrated one say 100.but they sent me an Outdoor thermometer (after waiting 5 days ) NOT the incubator one.UGH... now not sure i can trust any of it even though I did the salt test on this new hygro ...no test on therm as its digital .
Anyway what is the best one or 2 ?
I cant afford to have hygrometers in transit all spring trying to get an accurate one i can trust .... Period

These eggs right now look ok ... week to go might look a little too wet by the eggs cells but the humidity has been 10% pretty often and mostly 10-25 by this new hygrometer.

Side note .....about pennys..
My other incubator somehow got black dirt? mold? something in one well not sure what it is but bleached the bator before setting..IDK.any way the bator stunk a week ago.
Checked eggs for stinker ..... didnt see this well .... covered with an egg carton.. checked 4 different days at least..... nothing NO stinker ... Stumped ..Went in lockdown then noticed 3 days later ..hit me hatch day ... maybe its this well.?.. bacteria stinking .so what to do on hatch day? couldnt take it all apart on poor eggs..so desperate snuck in some... PENNYS!!!
. Today i find no smell at all!!
Sad note..... too late ... only one chick is trying to hatch day 22 and they looked good on 17.right size not sure if alive ....so maybe the bacteria kill the rest already...IDK

BUT...My point Id never used the penny trick but the pennys work better than i ever dreamed !! Think ill use them throughout the next hatch unless anyone thinks it can kill the eggs
Is copper poison in any way?

I never use the wells in the bators, you cant take the water out and its disgusting. you should try little containers in the bator instead and with marbles at hatch or sponges.

I am glad the pennies worked! I think many ppl use the pennies! but again changing what you do for humidity would solve all of it. ;)

let me see if I can find what I use on this thread.

With your wonderful Leaning Center thread for hatching ...Wanted to tell you about a guy with a GREAT make your own incubator video on YOUTUBE names; RUSH LANE POULTRY...so thorough especially the wiring which most others dont show well AT ALL
.He also Has a JUST wiring your bator up video and others on MAKING YOUR OWN COOLER BATOR Check him out. I was so impressed .I am going to make my own myself soon as i can now with his video help.
2 weeks ago .I wired a computer fan to my still air Looking at his wiring video Works awesome! To some men that may not seem that technical to do ..so what?...but to women sometimes it is until you see how to do it .

He tells where to find parts what parts you need and shows how to do it SO well. It was so easy.!!.

.
I have his link in the coolerbator article, lol Rox!

did you see our Cabinet Cooler incubator? link in my siggy

I dont really look at hygros anymore! I look at air cells, and for hatching I know that I do exactly the same amount of water for each hatch with success so even there it doesnt matter, HOWEVER when I make my hatcher cabinet cooler I will need one as I have no clue how it will hatch, I am getting the following as they seem to be the most accurate....... see paste from hatching 101 article note the wet bulb hygro and how it works?

I suggest you invest in these

How Does a Hygrometer Work?
http://weather.about.com/od/weatherinstruments/a/hygrometers.htm

Shown here is a WET Bulb Hygrometer and wick
Wet bulb is exactly what it states. It is the temperature relative of the humidity in degrees.
A Hygrometer Wick is placed over the stem of the thermometer and the other end of the sleeve is placed in a jar or pan in the incubator.
