Hang on, I still need an incubator and half the country hasn't realised the holidays are over. We are planning a little trip to the city on Friday though... I'll see if I can find a shop there that sells incubators and the rest. And I still need to organise some eggs...

I found some more ruins today. Am going to upload the pics now and add them to the Castles and Ruins thread. Give me a few minutes and go check it out.

I might not be able to get eggs today 'cause it's storming outside. (gusty winds blowing snow everywhere)

It was foggy here most of the day. Cold and wet. Well, it's Ireland. This place should export water, they'd get out of their financial mess in no time!

hey y'all!

just candled all the eggs again, i had to add some water to the bottom to up my humidity, and two of the lav orp eggs stopped growing, bummer, but i still have 10 of them!! 5 ducks still going strong!! they were dancing in their eggs!! and my 6 showgirls are still doing great!!

my house must be really dry cause i have to add water almost every other day! humidity hasn't gotten below 40%, but i'm trying to keep it 50-55%

i also can't decide if i should wait and see how many showgirls i get before ordering more eggs or not....the urge to buy more eggs is SO strong

What can you get locally? Local vs shipped my votes local all the way if you want a good hatch. If you're trying to get a specific breed then of course I'd go whatever route you need to go to get em but dont expect great rates. You north or south in ga?

Research, research, research, like Sally does :)  See what you can find locally, like MCF suggested and read through these to see what you need to do. I've done a little research into hatching ducks and quail and found some interesting sites that you can start with:

Here's some good info on hatching quail:

http://www.quails-in-essex.co.uk/tips_on_hatching_quail_eggs.html

And an interesting study or storing quail eggs before incubation and the effects of storing too long:

http://www.lrrd.org/lrrd22/1/roma22002.htm

For ducks... I found lots of different suggestions, but have a look here:

https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/491013/goose-incubation-hatching-guide-completed

And this is very interesting:

Read a few more sites about hatching ducks before you start, I found many different suggestions reg humidity specifically and at the moment I don't really know what the ideal is. I'll have to read more, or even better. Talk to an experienced hatcher.

I wanted to do Quail but someone told me they cannot be with chickens...they get sick easy. They need a super clean area reason being why they also need to be caged...? NOt sure if theis is true however. But that is super nice of Sally n Silver! Ya'll are such great people!

OOOOH I might hatch with you!! I might even get my eggs today! I say try the shipped eggs- The breeds could be interesting! Also try some local non- shipped eggs in case the shipped ones were to not hatch.

I am going to show the neighbor who gave me the eggs to hatch a video of Hope- He doesn't even know that I hatched one yet, and it's been two weeks! I hope he'll give me a few more eggs! Hope needs a buddy! At least one new friend!!!

Marine- I'm in the middle of Georgia, about and hour away from Atlanta.. I can get just about any specific breed I want from local farms (except quail) but I wanted to try some shipped eggs this time :)
sumi- aye aye! I will do research! Thank you for the website links!!!!!! :)
kelly- really? They can't live with chickens? Awww I'll search the Internet to find if that's true :)
3D- really??? I would love to hatch along with you!! But I can't get the eggs for about a week or two, and I think hope needs a buddy as soon a she can. I'll try to get the eggs as soon as I can though! :)
