Marine- I'm in the middle of Georgia, about and hour away from Atlanta.. I can get just about any specific breed I want from local farms (except quail) but I wanted to try some shipped eggs this time :)
Atl is about 3 hrs from me. Im in n.e. alabama. Sooo what breeds can you find? Ill take a long drive to get eggs to avoid them being shipped if at all possible :)

Around my town, there's just about every chicken breed in the books... But the ducks, there's blue Swedish, French Rouen, pekin, and mallards, and the only quail I know of around here are Button quail, and there's some geese swans pheasants turkeys peacocks and emu within 30 mins of my town too. I decided to do a lot of research for what I could find here without shipping and apparently there's more birds here than I thought lol so I don't want to make your drive 4 hours that's too long a drive to make someone drive :) the only bird around here that I really really want to hatch but can't find is Mandarin Ducks, do you know where I could get some?

Nah. Driving back home to see family in Cleveland is a long drive. Atlanta is just an annoyance... but then again so is Huntsville and thats less then an hour drive... lol

I am so dissolutioned by all your horror stories with shipped eggs that I am willing to spend a long day in a car to get good eggs. Apart from postal damage, they should be two days fresher.

My next chicken run will take me from la to sacramento then down the pacific coast via Metzer farms fir 50 guinea fowl eggs.

I want to increase my incubation capacity to 200 eggs so I guess I better build big bertha-bator.

Look at how much smaller Yolk is than the others. I wonder if its because she didn't absorb all the yolk? Apparently, bathing in it does no good!

400

I'm happy to report that she is still doing great!

thats AMAZING!!! GO YOLKER!! I added her story to the assisted hatching linking it back here... maybe its better if you throw it all neatlyi in an article then I can link it instead.... I am so happy for her!!!

I'll do that... It may be a while though. We are getting ready to move the whole farm. Yikes!

Here's a video I took tonight. She's the smallest one but you can see, she doesn't let that stop her
