I'm going to have to finish the thing first! Then I have to finish the page...and I didn't take any pictures of wiring it up

. I highly doubt I'd win anything. But I guess I could enter. But I gotta finish it first!

It is well ventilated! You just can't see the holes I drilled from the angle I took the pictures at! LOL!

Broody hens don't eat much and I heard they lose up to 25% of their body weight in a sitting. Give her high protein snacks like the other suggested, yoghurt and mealworms and a little dry cat food and scrambled eggs and such. A little vitamins in her water won't hurt either. Watch out for the broody poop though. Actually you will smell it before you see it. Those things are unreal. LOL They store them up and then drop a huge one when they're ready, usually when they get up to take a break or walk around with the chicks.
Shes happy in my bedroom ...all nice and warm. I regret not bringing her in sooner but I thought she might get off her eggs if I did. She is eating poached egg, corn, suet, grain (small amounts) and I picked her up last night and made her walk around just for a few seconds and she pooped. YA it SMELLS! I hear a chick chirping under her ...still in the egg though I believe.

Will the eggs and air sacks look different then incubated eggs? I candled them yesterday because I didnt want her wasting away sitting on dead chicks...but they are moving just look very odd. And would shrink-wrapping apply w/ a broody hen? What is there lock-down? I can't imagine the humidity has been that high under her.

Thanks

I had a chick I am fairly sure was shrink wrapped under her momma. Pipped and didn't hatch. I am no expert but that was what I thought it was at the time.

I asked this in a seperate thread, but it's not getting any answers so I'll ask here. It's more active :D

How many eggs should I incubate with the intention of getting 8 chickens? (7 chickens, one rooster) My eggs will need to be shipped, and so I'll expect at least a 50% mortality rate there. That makes 16. THEN I have to account for the 50% likelyhood of getting roosters instead of hens, so 32 eggs. 32 eggs for 8 keepers seems high. What say y'all?
