I understand, but it not stuffit is pure organic cold pressed coconut oil that you consume. Also, I added a dab of organic cold press ingestiable Castor oil which has those antimicrobial properties. Antibiotic ointment actually has a base of white petrolatum which is a chemical. Though both serve as the goal I was to reach "to keep the membrane from drying out" I chose what I did because I did not have antibiotic ointment without pain relief. So I choose something very safe. Without chemicals.![]()
Actually petrolatum is Vaseline and in most skin care products like Oil of Olay.
I guess we all have info to share that's why we are here and I appreciate everyones insight and help.
Thank you.![]()
My concerns are not the inactive ingredients such as petroleum jelly or coconut oil. The derivation of the water insoluble medium that is suspending the active ingredients is of no real consequence. My concern is that you have potentially created a moist environment - ideal for bacterial growth - without the protection of antibiotics.
I have an aversion to ointments period and the only place I have used them on myself is on a corneal abrasion where the eye simply rinses antibiotics out. In my often less than humble opinion, antibiotic creams are more suited to these tasks as the lack of petroleum jelly creates less "goo".
I hope by now you were able to hatch the chick. We are indeed all learning all the time on here. I have little expertise in chick first aid but have spent more than half my life surrounded by pharmaceuticals.
Hopefuly others here will learn from your tribulations and pick up some antibiotic cream from the 99 cents store.
I wish you well
