Update... "When hens attack"; the injured chick is doing well this morning. The pipped egg hatched last night. I candled the remaining 3 eggs and found that two were quitters and one looks ready to pip. Hasn't pipped internally yet, but I would guess that may happen by tonight. The first chick of the six she was setting on she actually killed. Poor babe. One more to go.

Sally, I thought to enter the Easter Hatch you just needes to post to say you're in. Honestly, I can't keep up with the thread either. I'll try and read up on it today. It's coupon day for me! Gotta run and get my Sunday papers!

i found my hovabator genesis unplugged with 41 eggs on day 7. my housekeeper, bless her, probably did it by accident 6 hrs earlier. time will tell if it was too long.

They'll be fine. It takes quite awhile for the core temperature of the eggs to drop and embryos can survive cooler temps for a few hours. The length of time depends on the temperatures, but I've heard of embryos surviving in a fridge! I wouldn't try that though... Be prepared for a slightly delayed hatch though, as cooler temps slows down their growth, even if it was just for a few hours it can have an effect.

Thank God for you all or I would certainly go insane this life I live! reminds me....Wish me luck later as I finally have more kiddos coming that I need to meet and hopefully watch part time, we sure need the money right now so the call was a blessing but I dont count them until 2 weeks after a child starts LOL sometimes I get some real winners! um parents that is! LOL

Ok, I just bought Iodine Tincture. The actvie ingredients are iodine, sodium iodine, and alcohol. Is that the right stuff?

I purchased it for my gosling's navel in hopes that it would prevent infection and dry it out. She's 5 days old and her navel is still open.
