Diary & Notes ~ Air Cell Detatched SHIPPED Chicken Eggs for incubation and hatching

The low humidity caused a chick to shrink wrap. The other chicks hatched out so fast, it wasn't a problem, but she was slower. I dampened her up and helped her out of the shell, then added yet *more* wet wash cloths to the incubator. She has a blorp of yolk still (at least I think it's yolk) She's back in the incubator, resting on a wet-ish paper towel. Hopefully the protruding bit will absorb.

Morning everyone. I discovered this morning we are out of internet credit and would you believe it took about 2 hours to get it topped up?

I cannot top up unless I'm online and I cannot get online without credit. Sooff to town to get into a wifi zone and then the webpage wouldn't work...

Sally, I found a PM I send to another member where I mentioned the "due date" for the duckies, it's the 25th. Thank goodness I had that PM still. I was wondering... LOL I candled them and they look great but nowhere near ready for lockdown!

Oh, I have a broody. And I have no idea where she's made her nest! I've looked for her this morning, but she's hidden herself too well and we've got 100's of possible places. I'm going to spy on her tomorrow morning when I feed them and watch where she goes and how many eggs she's got hidden. Of course I have no idea how long the sneaky cow's been at it either! LOL I went out first thing to give them their morning scratch and heard that unmistakable "cluck-cluck" and saw her, all puffed up, stuffing her face. I went to get a coffee and when I came back out she was gone again. Hopefully I will catch her out tomorrow.
hmmmmm 25th I think thats inbetween hatches here, Harmony has lockdown now and then 20th for serama and then on 27th for our easter hatchalong eggs... oh and the quail will be soon! OMG I better look! day 13 lockdown isnt written on the calendar!

Oh WOW ! interesting! please show us what you came up with and what meds she put her on and such please. oh and I pray she cut gave you a break!

I was upset with my last litter of pups with Xrays of puppies! I was told since they couldnt get good pics and the xray tech who usually did it wasnt there so I had to bring her back the following week free of charge and they sent me a bill for two sets anyways! I threw a fit! but I think I got myself blacklisted : ( my bill was over 600 bucks for xrays! lesson learned!
Whoa yeah I have great relationships with my vet(s). They provide me with neo-natals and fosters which I reluctantly take with the verbal understanding that they'll cut me a break sometimes. :)
ok, so that's only happened 2x so far. 2 of my cats came from the vet office. :) Also when people bring them wildlife I will transport it to the proper wildlife rehab location. And I have missed many vacations because the money has gone to them to save my dog who suffers from eating everything he can fit in his mouth.

Also I promised to bring them fresh eggs which they all can't wait to get.

The other vet is a friend and not my regular vet, but always has said I should call her with questions anytime. She's super smart and very kind hearted, and I finally took advantage of her in the hopes that if I see this again it will be an investment well spent.

I'll get the names of the meds, but really, I think baby aspirin and penicillin would be the cheapest way to go, in fact I'm picking some of that up today to have on hand. The poultry podiatry page has the dosages so hatchers with gram scales to measure the baby birds should be able to do the calculations, the amounts are tiny.

oh and to answer an earlier question (sorry can't find the post to quote now, how do you all keep up!!!???) www.frankensusan.com is my art website.

Oz I'm trying to train myself to be a farm girl really I am! I was ready to decide to cull her and then the little fuzzybutt snuggled up in my hand like I was her only hope and my heart melted. She better be a SHE at this point!

Off to clean up more poop...
