I'm so tempted to get some silkies too, but I'm resisting. I got lots of chickens "for fun" already and once that sneaky broody hen hatched hers... I'm going to have to sell some! How's your broody doing?
good but the eggs are adding up again, I think when she gets off to eat the other lays an egg! she wont lay while she sitting on them will she? I saw six this am! I thought there was 5

When a hen goes broody she stops laying and will only lay again once her chicks are a few weeks old, unless you break her broodiness. You should mark her eggs, so you can see which eggs gets added when she gets up to eat. My hens used to do this too. They just cannot resist a nest full off eggs.

12 CHICKS OUT! Hatch complete until EASTER LOCKDOWN! Not bad at all for shipped little eggs!

NOW TO let everyone know what I did different with these eggs......

I didnt settle at all, I candled and set them upright in a carton in the bator and turned in a carton right off the bat, YES I DID! 45 degree angle one end of carton flip to other 3x day.
Didnt touch them until day 7 candle, all the air cells were stable but odd so I laid them all in the bator and turned 3x day. 1 early death, 1 dead at lockdown.

Do I suggest this? NOT WITH expensive eggs, until we know for sure its the method..... I will try this again and if I get another batch of shipped eggs, even though I dont see that anytime soon. SO DONT DO THIS AND FAIL AT HATCH AND BLAME ME OK?

So yesterday was hatch day and still not even an internal pip, I candled all 3 (4never made it passed internally pipping and died) are still moving. How long after hatch day is the longest anyone has had eggs hatch? (These are duck eggs by the way)
and is there anyway to tell if you have to much humidity? 3 of the 4 that died were shrink wrapped so I upped my humidity almost 3 days ago (they pipped internally early) but now I'm paranoid that I could get the humidity to high and they will drown. Aaarrgh!!!!!
