Good question Cochins!! Curious to know what the answer for this would be too. Wondered the same with my last hatch, if I was able to intervene in any way due to one chick that never pipped because it had it's beak under it's leg....Ok, I need someone to talk me out of this idea.
I was thinking about my eggs because I need these eggs to hatch. There still aren't any internal pip, the air cells are extremely screwed up, and I'm almost positive that I'm going to have mostly mal-positioned chicks.
I didn't want to admit this, but I was really bad with turning. I kept forgetting to do it and for a while, the eggs were only being turned once a day. After so many hatches, you would have thought that I would have known better. (note to self - buy an automatic egg turner)
Anyways, enough with the confessions. Here is my crazy idea. I was thinking about Goosey. I opened her egg because she was unable to internal pip and she made it just fine. What if I went ahead and removed the tops of all 5 eggs, put down antibiotic sab, and checked for mal-positioned chicks. Yes I know I shouldn't intervene if it's not necessary, but the chicks should be able to hatch on their own normally if they are correctly positioned, and I could help those that aren't positioned, right?
