We have a lamp...I should have done more research but we were overly excited that one of our hens started to lay and the first eggs were fertile. So I found a youtube video that showed how to make your own incubator and that is the one I copied. This is the video we followed..I have 2 thermometers though

I need advice!! Ugg I am so tired today

my little eggs kept me up all night. I forgot what it was like to be a mama..lol OK so I fell asleep and temps were stable then in the middle of the night until morning they got as high as 102! Is this ok? I kept making holes in the styrofoam (which seemed to do nothing) so I kept opening the lid and then temps would go down to 100. I have a digi thermometer and one I lay on the eggs bought at Agway. Both are reading the same. I can not imagine doing this for 20 more days ...I feel I should have just bought an expensive incubator.

where is your bator located in your house? if it is in a cool room then it might be working harder to keep the temp up. Just my thought. I think the location plays a big role in how the temps stay stable. Is yours forced air or still? Still airs will get hot spots and cool spots. That is why when you are turning your eggs they should be rotated around. Like move the bottom row to the top and move everyone else down.

Found it!! Seriously have no clue how this works, I think its set up stupid and I think its ONLY BECAUSE of where and how they located it, no one knows about this stuff unless they go looking and if you dont know about it why in the world would I be looking for it!! lol

OMG Kelly you two are absolutely fricken adorable!!! I laughed, so cute you two are together... He soooo was trying to make you more confident... you compliment each other well!!!

Bator~ OMG ask SPARKY how hard it really is to maintain temps without a thermostat!! Only way is a room that has no flux in temps, and I have yet to have a room like that! Even in a brand new house!!! I know how you are feeling staying up all night watching worrying! I did that for a week straight when we didnt have electric and the bator was next to the coal stove! It was HORRIBLE!! If you can aford the thermostat I would HIGHLY SUGGEST getting it!! wiring is easy too, just use an cheap ext cord like my hubs did in that pic on the cooler bator... you wont have to watch that temp or adjust it at all once you have it set!!! and sleep!! remember that??? OMG 21 days NO NO NO WAY!!!! I remember sparky omg (she is on this thread too) she had so many attempts!! she did hatch but not great numbers : ( Silver sent her a bator!! So we are waiting till the new year for her to set some eggs in it! BUY THE WAFER BUY THE WAFER!! lol AND ADD the video of doing it onto youtube and I will add it to the coolerbator info too, so we can help the next person/kid out!!

Mine's in. Didn't do many this time though. Too distracted to remember to follow people
