I hope the hatch goes well! It's so exciting to see lil chickies hatch after 3 weeks of fretting over the eggs! Post pics of the chicks when they hatch!

seeing the glove --- kinda says that everything else is clean too -- i'm sure your eggs'll do fine, but hatching a rock takes a REAL long time

....

Not to cause concern at this stressful time but how high is the water in your bowls?
Hard to tell by the pic.
If very shallow then you have the right idea SURFACE AREAS of water....brings the humidity up NOT water DEPTH.

But if its higher dont mean to be picky but unless the water is 1/4 inch deep i think i would have more glass beads in the water to be safe. if the jars are below 3-4 inches high
Chicks can easily climb in and out of an egg carton and climb back in their shell still IN the carton to sit ! So they cimb better than you would think
If the bowls and jars arent 3-4 inches high or so they may be able to climb in

i have read new chicks for some reason are drawn to water and yet easily drowned.

Anythng lower should be FILLED with the glass beads with water just inbetween the beads in small amounts if you know what i am saying so they cant get in or fall in head first
Maybe yours IS very shallow just cant tell.
You dont want to have to open the bator to save a chick with others pipping
Other than that it really looks great and GOOD LUCK!!

We're now registered as a hatchery, and I need a beer. lol

Hello all! I would like to pick your brains this morning. I’ve heard so many of you talk about not using your incubator for lockdown and the hatch. Over the weekend, I decided to make my own “hatcher” versus using my new incubator for the last three days. I am no electrician, and after several attempts, blowing the circuits and wiring the thermostat (my first shot I accidentally wired it for a 220, oops!), the bulb, placing in water trays, baskets and insetting glass viewing windows… I think we’re good to go. It’s staying at a consistent average temperature of 101 (thermal; no fan) with the humidity of 65-67% (Dry hatch method). I’m pretty proud of myself. I’m a little nervous about trying to install a fan. Do you think I should try my first lockdown period in my new “hatcher”? Is it ok that there isn’t a fan. Here it is:

wonderful job!!! I like a fan, its easy too..... cheap and you can recycle one of those little converter plugs at the same time!
I like that the air circulates that heat everywhere... but alot of people dont, but as easy to install and has its benefits so why not? perhaps for next time!
