Just candled a few of my eggs, just to cure curiosity and all of the 6 I looked at were growing!!! The two duck eggs I checked, I could see their little hearts beating away! Makes me happy, I'll sleep good tonight!
AWESOME!! Duck eggs are so COOL to Candle!!! we just cleaned out the coolerbator and moved the ancona eggs over and of course we had to candle them as we moved them!!! ALL 5 going strong and I must admit I feel SOOO much better with them in the coolerbator than that cheap styro bator I have!! hate them!! uggggg!!! So fingers crossed, lockdown is on the 29th!

Yup thats typical with air cells, they are so weird at times esp with shipped eggs!

Not sure if you will be able to tell, but its the dirty egg I originally posted asking you if it was ok to incubate.I tried to get a side shot as well. These are home grown eggs and I'm SO hopeful they will all hatch. But I'm not counting them yet....

Ignore the temps/humidity on the little white monitor. Even with the fan, the temp fluctuates a little between 98.8 - 99.3. Both my other thermometers say 99-100. I think I need another one. Lol... Yet another addiction... Perfecting equipment!

Well, I thought I was losing my mind... But its confirmed by the DH. A couple of the eggs are moving. Yippee! Not a ton, but just a little. One of them is that dirty little egg I was worried about. Lol!

Night all! Talk to you all tomorrow!

:thumbsup  awesome article!!

I had an eBay problem the other night. I had a drink or well two good ones and I realized I had an eBay problem lol. It wasn't the drinks just eBay lol. Woke up and had bids on over a half dozen different listings for eggs lol.

i just wanted to admit that i have become addicted to hatching, even before i've hatched anything!! :lau  i just bid on some sebastopol eggs on ebay!!!

Very nice!
I had never seen so many rocking like that before. Them Lil stinkers are hatching quick now. They started last night around this time. So your talking 24 hrs from the time they were rocking till they were kicking out. :)

Congrats!! Pics, please?

They take up to 24 from pipping through the shell to completing the hatch, but I hear from internal pip to external pip can also take a few hours. I've had some chicks take quite long to hatch and I had one hatch incredibly quickly. I just sat and watched her, pip, zip, out of there! Took maybe 15 minutes. They're not following the hatching rules, or expectations, so it's better to expect them to take very long, otherwise you'll get worried and starting thinking about helping, which can be fatal for the chick if done too soon. Expect them to take 24 hours every time and remember they sometimes pip externally a little prematurely, for lack of a better word, and they are nowhere near ready to come out yet. They just make the hole to breathe through. When they start start zipping, that's when they are ready to hatch. If they don't start zipping 24-30 hours after pipping externally and the chick looks like it's not going to come out, then you sit down and read through Sally's notes about assisted hatch. That'll take about another hour

and by then you may need to give the chick a little hand.

I would love to, how do I summit photos?
They usually start a thread in Pictures and Stories of My Chickens sometime round August/September asking for photo submissions for the calendar. But do as Sally suggested and keep an eye on the photo contests as well. I never think of that LOL Thanks, Sally!
