My 1st Article Submission.....

And Sumi gave me a little incentive to finish writing it!

My Article is being submitted because I almost lost my Beautiful Blue Cochin, Fluffy due to Vent Gleet this past Summer. What a stressful learning experience and WOW hard to find information to treat naturally. My girl was so thin and so wasted away and this treatment was AMAZING so I just have to share everything I learned in the process this past summer, and trust me I kept ALL the information I found and all the pictures I took when I was trying so hard to figure out what was wrong! So sharing is hoping to help someone else in that same stressful situation to get through and have the info they need at hand.

. You do some excellent articles and I have a feeling you're going to kick my butt in this contest LOL. But that was a great article and very informative.

Very nice!
I had never seen so many rocking like that before. Them Lil stinkers are hatching quick now. They started last night around this time. So your talking 24 hrs from the time they were rocking till they were kicking out. :)

Oh, I just can't wait. Definitely post pictures when you can.

PS - Congrats!

Congrats!! Pics, please?

They take up to 24 from pipping through the shell to completing the hatch, but I hear from internal pip to external pip can also take a few hours. I've had some chicks take quite long to hatch and I had one hatch incredibly quickly. I just sat and watched her, pip, zip, out of there! Took maybe 15 minutes. They're not following the hatching rules, or expectations, so it's better to expect them to take very long, otherwise you'll get worried and starting thinking about helping, which can be fatal for the chick if done too soon. Expect them to take 24 hours every time and remember they sometimes pip externally a little prematurely, for lack of a better word, and they are nowhere near ready to come out yet. They just make the hole to breathe through. When they start start zipping, that's when they are ready to hatch. If they don't start zipping 24-30 hours after pipping externally and the chick looks like it's not going to come out, then you sit down and read through Sally's notes about assisted hatch. That'll take about another hour ;)  and by then you may need to give the chick a little hand.

I plan on the hands off approach... I want to keep my bator shut with no helping before day 24 which I truly hope they'll all be hatched by then. I keep worrying that my temps my have been too high or too low. (even though they've been consistent). Hopefully... Day 24 they'll all be in the brooder and I won't have to assist in anyway. I have learned SO much here from everyone and I'm very glad I'm not on my own come closer to hatch time!

Good job and stay strong. It is very hard to resist opening when your first one is out but if you keep it closed there is a better chance that everyone will make it.

Have to get pics with the camera. My phone seems to be acting squirrelly . There are 8 running around this morning, one open and hanging out and checked a few others and had some duds. Have 6 more that are just sitting and waiting for the right time to break out into the world lol.

Well, I thought I was losing my mind... But its confirmed by the DH. A couple of the eggs are moving. Yippee! Not a ton, but just a little. One of them is that dirty little egg I was worried about. Lol!
Night all! Talk to you all tomorrow!

Sounds good!
