hello everyone, i'm the one hatching on groundhog day with lots of

detached aircells!

anyways, WHY is it recommended to lockdown early?
edit! nevermind! see next post!

took out 9 clears today. hope all you groundhog hatchers (or thereabouts) are having a good experience. sorry i'm not able to keep up with the thread, busy busy!

thanks in advance!
I never lockdown before day 18..... only day 18, stop turning, raise humidity, dont open. chicken eggs right?

how many are good yet? its day 14 for Harmonys serama, candle tonight, yay!

Ok, candled (day14)

I have
1 wobbly air sac
1 saddle shaped air sac
8 angled air sacks (at the fat end but instead of forming a straight line across the top it's closer to a 20-30 degree angle
1 abnormally large air sac
2 with a good air cells but I can see half way down to a dark blob. Guessing these quit but I don't want to risk tossing them if they just are easier to see into for some reason.

6 'good' air cells with black interiors.

Thoughts? Everyone is going into cartons for hatching, that's for sure!
everyone has life and moving, good veining? def in carton!
8 angled are ok, just mark cells and keep eye on them.... I posted about this... not sure if added to article... if you use cartons make sure your eggs arent too large to fit in, you want the chick to have some room to pip. esp if you have the ones like below as they can pip really low on the dip of the cell.

SHIPPED EGGS and SADDLE SHAPED AIR CELLS ~

(when one or both sides have a large "dip" in the air cell.)

Look at this position..... I alot of times with saddle shaped cells the chick doesnt position correct for hatching and alot of times the feet are in a bad place like stuck behind the head and actually smoosh the chick so they cant move, it can also force the yolk sack and everthing more north in the shell....

Look at the pics and note the top of the egg and how far down this air cell goes, alot of times they CAN do the internal pip but cannot hit that outer membrane/shell. This is why I mark the air cells and keep a close watch on them at hatch and if they seem "later" that the rest by about 6-12 hrs I will begin an assist by candle and tapping to make sure I have that internal pip, HOWEVER in this case you cant see the internal pip too well because of the angle, so I always tap to see if I hear them. and if I do hear a chirp then I follow the Assist steps... If not I check again in another 6 hours....and repeat...

Night guys. I'm off to bed now. My head finally stopped aching after 3 tablets and a Red Bull LOL See ya tomorrow and fingers crossed my bantams lay me a few eggs to set in my fancy new incubator

YAY!!!

I had a chick who's comb started turning pink at 2 weeks and she turned out to be a hen, so I bet hope will too :)

In my experience, light pink is ok but anything darker than that is BAD/rooish. Depends on breed too, but in general that's my experience. My EEs through me for a loop, pink combs on two at about six weeks and larger combs than the third. Both were girls.

Thanks for the reassurance!

Sounds interesting. You should label the eggs and see how good each hatch!
