He's sitting next to me now, wolfing down jelly snakes and watching TV, quite happy and my hands are still shaking!

i have 5 chicks now. one was a detached air sac baby. so, i guess that is something!

another, that wasn't detached, needed help. even though i hadn't opened the incubator since lockdown, he was stuck.

we took soaking wet paper towels and put them all the way 'round the top of the bator. opened it up and got him out. got his top off and put him back. an hour later got him out again and got his bottom off. (with the same method). the humidity did not budge, in fact it went up.

my bator reservoirs were almost empty. i found a piece of tubing that we keep on hand for brewing. stuck it in the red air plug hole on top and angled it to the reservoir. filled the turkey baster with hot water, allowed the "capillary action" to hold the water in the baster. placed the tip of the baster at the end of the tube, voila! filled the reservoir without opening the bator.

have one chick zipping. still hoping for more pips. today is day 21.

They're doing well, especially the one with the detached air sac! Well done

Wow!! The slow poke chick just zipped half the shell in about 15 minutes! I checked 15 ago and the hole was a touch bigger, I come down now and OMG!!!

guess someone told the little fluff he was slow...

YAY!!! PICS PICS..... wait I will prob find some coming up!! LOL

It looks A LOT like the first pic on her assisted hatching section. I can see veining on it now. At least the chick was kind enough to stay still for a pic. That is also the egg it hatched from.

Awwww sweet thing..... I would take the chance to set something under her so she doesnt rip that open on the wire grate. and maybe put some antibod ointment or betadine on it.

S/he doesn't stay still so I would have to empty the bator and cover the whole bottom. :/. Definantly getting some cheese cloth for next time.
