A thermostat would be the best route I definately agree.... 3D have you checked out my incubator page? We all love ya so want to help you out here! I know your mom wont allow us to send you stuff, but if you speak with her you may be able to get a hot water heater thermostat at the homevalue store or someplace at least, I got my first one for 10 bucks it isnt up to par with the wafer but it is much better than not having one.

Do all of you that have homemade incubators have a thermostat? I have a wafer for 25 bucks.

For now this trip is just a visit - i am having to help out with my mom - but by summer it will be a more permanent move i am pretty sure .... i am hoping to get ot meet Sparky in person :)

Are you meeting me this summer or while your visiting? I've never met a byc friend so I'm really happy! :)

Oh JELOUS!!  I love Sparky!! and you Silver!!  :hugs

:hugs mrs. Sally my parents said that when we go to visit my cousin in PA then we could meet you!

Quote: Last year was our first year hatching. We hatched a batch of chickens first (Out of 14 I had 2 hatch.) Then we did 12 duck eggs, we had 5 hatch. That would make this batch of 16 ducks be my fourth go at incubating. I have only ever hatched shipped eggs. I like to be pretty selective in my chickens which is another way of saying I like to spend a lot of money gambling.

I have posted on craigslist for hatching eggs but only seem to get mixed breed chicken owners to respond and no one around here has Anconas so I have just taken chances with shipping. Our Ancona ducks had an unfortunate run in with some night time predator two months ago and only my goose and one duck survived. (It was touch and go on my duck. Thankfully my husband didn't give me too much grief for bringing her into the bathroom for a night of doctoring.) Our plan was to incubate their eggs (I had two drakes and three ducks) this spring but now I am back to square one and starting over. We had a chocolate and blacks and they laid white eggs and were hatched in white eggs so when I opened the box and discovered a green I was taken back. I will email the breeder as soon as I post this. Thanks for all the help!

I guess, I should be happy with my numbers then?

Maybe I am out of my place here - but I actually bent over backwards scouring Canada to help find you eggs so I will speak up anyway.

To incubate eggs without a thermostat is irresponsible. Ok, you did not know the first time, but now you do. In my mind, there is some sort of moral obligation when playing with life.

Please get a thermostat - a hot water heater one is cheap.
I did not ask for anyone to find me eggs- I know what I am doing. I understand what I am doing, and I do not appreciate someone telling me that what I am doing is irresponsible. I might get a thermostat because it is so cheap, and maybe that will help with my hatch rates, but some chicks in the eggs are probably going to die, nevertheless.

I hope I will get more chicks to hatch this time around.

I contacted the seller and she said Ancona ducks can lay a variety of colors like EE's can; I had no idea!

I only wish the best for you. I felt every bit of anguish for you as you struggled with Hope and then lamented the loss of the other chicks. Sorry to offend you. May you be blessed with an abundance of chicks.

I know you'll get a better hatch this time. The first hatch is just hard. I can't wait to see what your chicks look like this time!!! How many eggs do you have so far again?
