I am happy to see everyone have pretty successful hatches! Mine was and prolly will still be a learning experience. Out of the 18 that I set, all were infertile except 1. And that one was shrinked-wrapped - so I've got to get a better hygometer to put into the incubator.... Will try again later as my hens are laying only anywhere from 0-2 a day. Of course the sun helps in HUGE way since it's a rare event in PNW area.

Told my office mate about my unsuccessful hatch, and about how wonderful Alpha, my roo, was with the ladies - making sure they all ate first before him, watching out for the hawks that we have, shooing them all into the coop (way too early in my opinion) before the sun actually sets..... you know the saying - Nice guys finish last, right? Well it totally applies in the hen world too!

XD Cute! Sorry about the hatch. Did the shrink- wrapped one make it? Good luck on your next hatch!

So I noticed you use the word "prolly" as well.

BAD NEWS~ Spitz came are mostly dead and the rest are laying there shivering and tumbling over heads, its so sad...... The spanish tracking says tomorrow, let us pray they are in better shape. I cant believe they send chicks to 20's weather with a 1/4 pad in the bottom of a box and thats all! THEy are guaranteed so we will see how this pans out
I just got 25 bantams this morning. The PO called at 6:30 and told me to hurry up cause she could see one dead one and a few others not doing well. It is now 3:00 and we have lost four total. I am hoping the rest will come through and stay happy. They were all so cold to the touch it made me feel guilty for ordering them! Not sure why they didn't use a heat pack!

day 7 candle update!!!
Okay.... I candled the eggs today!!! Out of the 21 eggs, I was only able to completely determine 12 for-sure developers (10 FCM, 2 silkies) the rest are too porous or too dark to tell, at the moment. But te ones that I can tell are developing beautifully! They've got wonderful veining and eyes now!

O kay...
So, I chatted with my daughter's teacher today about the eggs, incubation, what I'm going to be doing and what I expect them to do.

She let me know that instead of a classroom project, it's now a school project. No pressure.

Something to make you smile...

This cockerel pecks my pants, feet, hands, anything to get my attention. I thought he was being a bit aggressive with me but I think he just has a crush on me. I stand at this window to watch them in the yard. It is a huge picture window. He will see me there and run across the yard and has been standing under it looking up at me. He figured out he could jump up on the ledge now.

awwww that is cute!
