Diary & Notes ~ Air Cell Detatched SHIPPED Chicken Eggs for incubation and hatching

Yes, it's my sebastopol goose egg. The air cell is marked, but the gosling hasn't internally pipped yet. I assumed that I shouldn't make a saftey hole until after it's been internally pipped for a while. Maybe I'm just overly worried as I want this egg to hatch very badly.

Celtics Oaks said that her goslings are usually out at day 30. Temperature ran at a steady 99.5 degrees.

I'll just have to give it more time. And yes, I've read Sally's article, Pete's article, and a few others and I've sucessfully assisted hatches many times before.

I hope it hatches!

Update on squirt:
Squirt is still alive, but his yolk sac just seems to be getting worse. I took the other chicks out of the bator and left squirt in to absorb but his yolk sac is just coming on not in.....

If Squirt lives, give him lots of kisses! (I was going to say hugs, but that would prolly hurt him lol)

I have funny little noises coming from my bator........ chicken noises.

My niece and nephew's egg study cochins are getting ready to start the hardest day's work of their lives.

Hopefully they will all hatch today so I can get them to their new home before the end of the weekend,

I should be posting pics on my thread of the chicks growing in the Philippines in a few hours. Just waiting for them to be uploaded to dropbox.

9 more eggs in the bator, one has been externally pipped for about a day and a half or two days now... Should I assist it?

I'd say yes. Make the hole a bit bigger and work from there, but make sure that if you see blood, put it back in the bator. Put some cold water over the area where the blood is (if there is any) and I think that will help it.

grrr... There still isn't an internal pip and today is the beginning of day 30.

He's still alive, but he has slowed down. I hope that everything is ok.

These are the two eggs I've been watching rock inside the incubator. Do their air sacks look normal??

Air cells are a bit small. Next time, lower your humidity a bit and keep track of their weight loss. You can see how the air cell in the top picture is starting to dip down. That's a good sign.

I don't think that the air cells are the cause of the delayed hatching. Your temperatures probably ran a bit on the low side.

You should read the hatching section of this link: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/491013/goose-incubation-hatching-guide-completed The title says goose incubation, but he wrote it to apply for all species of eggs. If you read the hatching section, you will be able to better understand the hatching process. It will also tell you about the importance of air cells sizes and what could happen if they're not correct.
