Most awesome video, it shows how fast some of them can zip once they start.

NOTES: Zipping is the last stage in hatching! DO NOT get it confused with the external pip! It happens well AFTER the first pip and resting period..... in the case of these eggs, that phase took almost a full day and these are TINY eggs..... so LF can take alot longer!

Agreed! however what I found interesting is that it had little to no effect on whether or not the embryo incurred a malposition. so maybe that means malpositions are a result of genetic effects and not incubation process. Which as a result would relieve many chicken lovers! Great article sally.

the %'s of hatchability were most affected by cooling the dipped eggs as Oz said because they noted that the different percentages of ascorbic acid lowered the likely hood of stress-induced mortality of high embyonic metabolic heat produced during later stages of incubation. They're rationale for this was based on the natural broody hens who leave the clutch to feed thus the eggs are cooled for a time.

the other take-home point was that mortality increases with cooling days 18-19. thats when the gastrointestinal tract is maturing

Another update! 3 out and they rolled everyone else all around so I cant see some pips now... lil stinkers!

Just checked and another hatched! It does still have a little yolk sack left to absorb. Saw u could put it back in the Bottem part of shell and place in a cup? Also the other one is trying to hatch but looks kinda stuck and has slight bleeding. Should I help or let it be?

oh no, you didnt take any membrane off? I have never had one break through the membrane that unabsorbed, poor mite... if you can slip her back in and put in cup yes, she isnt ready awwwww poor chicky not sure if she will make it even more so now.
