I'll read it in a moment. I emailed the professor saying that I'd be a half an hour late.

I've already done something about it. I was really stressed and I was sure that I'd lose him, so I went ahead and carefully tied the end off and pulled him out. I'll post pictures in a moment.

I don't know if it was the right thing to do, but it's already done. There is something right outside his navel that I don't know if it belongs in or out so I tied off the cord right after it. He's now resting on warm paper towels in the incubator.
its hard to say without seeing it coch

Ok, here's pictures. Sorry, they aren't very clear.

Here's it's navel. I used yarn covered in antibiotics to tie the cord. See that thing sticking out? Does it belong inside the gosling or out?

Here's what was left in the egg after I finished. The gosling is covered head to toe in yolk.

This was taking from the incuabtor window. He looks pitiful...

Cochins there wasn't a lot of blood so i think that is in your and little gos' favor. I can't tell you want a goslings umbilical should look like.

Hey Coch!

From the sounds of it, I think you might be ok. The only thing I worried about was the proper amount of nutrients absorbed. I’m assuming that the blood had mostly been absorbed from reading earlier. I would make sure to clean the gosling of all debris and get some medication on that umbilical stump and try to position the babe so that movement is minimal. This will hopefully keep further damage from occurring to the cord while giving it a chance to dry up too. I believe I read they take longer to recuperate from hatching as well. I don’t know a lot about hatching water fowl. My ducks are great parents, I’ve been lucky. I would certainly make sure that you have what your baby needs nutrient wise and that he/she is in a very clean area. Your risk of infection will be higher but don’t give up.
