FOR ONCE I FEEL IT, even the chickens are happy today! Sumi did you read, Black betty cochin in broody! she has a ton of eggs to keep her busy....

question, she wont budge I swear she is hibernating! is this normal? I placed some spinich and hard boiled egg at her face and she didnt even flinch to eat it!
I never had cochin or a broody like this before, I always beat the broody out of them!
Yeah, I read through all the posts. Awesome news! Someone to take over some of the hatching and stress. And free up incubator space

It's perfectly normal, her behaviour. They go into a trance when they're broody. Well, most of them do! My broodies freaked when I bothered them on the nest. Oh, Sally, don't feed her on the nest. It will make her poop in there and broody poops are bombs. She'll get up once a day to eat etc. Feed her then rather. You'll hear when she gets up. Our last broody used to take of like a Boeing. I swear the whole farm heard her carry on LOL

this one is from 2-22
One of the teachers at kiddo's school and I got talking about chicks etc this week. She hatches and raises broilers and ducks for people, but her incubator packed up. So I'm going to hatch some eggs for her. She's going to take some duck eggs with to school on Monday, so I can pick them up when I fetch kiddo. I'd better start reading about incubating duck eggs LOL
this is from 3-1
OMG there are way too many new posts to read through. You guys have been busy!

Just a quick update from here. I ordered hatching eggs last week, 6 either RIR or Leghorn. Went and collected today's breakfast... Yep, only thing those eggies are good for. 4 of the 6 are tiny and 1 is cracked

I'm not going to bother.

Duck eggs, I've no idea what is going on in there. I'm going to candle next week sometime.

are you serious??? eeeewwwww poor chick??? poor butt lickin dog!
I am! I wish I could remember when and where I read that. She said that poor chick just screamed and screamed... The dog probably enjoyed it. They love icky things.

GOOD AFTERNOON ALL!!

I'm back. So I am behind 3,000 posts....lol. I am not going to even attempt to catch up. Update on my end. I just hatched out 27/28 of my own BR eggs. My GSBR/Blue Plymouth rock eggs all hatched (20/20.) My production BR only 7/8. Still an excellent hatch!!! I have 56 eggs set for he Easter hatch-a-long and have 4 boxes at the post office waiting for me (50 more eggs.) I really have to stay away from the Paypal Swap....soooo addicting. I keep finding breeds I really like. As you can tell by my signature I have more than enough chickens but my chicken math class isn't over yet.
Hi Brookhavens....How many of your eggs are Serama??
YAY BROOKS!!! LOL its only 3,000! Your always in the swap! I am glad I still dont understand it! DH would kill me! whats at the PO? and we need pics of they dont exist!
How are you set up with pens/coops Brooks?
I can't figure it out , or the regular Swaps either. Probably a blessing in disguise!!

Not too much going on here chicken wise. Shae is starting the last session of junior master gardener. I have 7 quail eggs, 24 polish, 6 BLRW, 6 black Austrolorps, 8 Ancona ducks, and a handful of OE/EE in the incubator - we'll see what hatches.
Hello Sara!!

ok! Here are this mid-morning pics. This mornings pre-coffee splint just popped right off.
The awesome thing that happened is her outter toe on her good leg finally sprung out correctly and now she can stand upright on one leg!
And hop!

The next awesome thing that happened is I finally asked my friend who is a vet, she is always saying 'why don't you call me' but I feel like it's taking advantage... Anyway She is going to check out Peg for me at a discount. :) With the caviat that she doesn't normally treat tiny chickens...

I will see if she can help me rig the proper support, and I'm printing the chicken podiatry pages to bring for her to view, bringing a healthy cochin, and healthy non-feather chick, and my splinting kit...

Susan
