in a video i saw on hatchery chicks they punch a whole in the eggs to incubate for mareks on day 18.

i have been thinking about the same thing ever since

I saw that too. I didn't realize they could vaccinate that way..

I've read that you can make a small hole in the egg after they internally pip to help prevent suffocation and it does work, but there is also research that says that if you make a hole, the chick won't be motivated to externally pip. Because of this, I will only make a 'safety hole' if they have been internally pipped for too long.

I feel like a horrible person... Goosey had to leave the house today. I just put her in with the cochin bantam chicks because they are about the same size as her being 8 weeks old. When I left, she was pacing back and forth, jumping up the wall, and crying her little heart out. I feel so bad, but mom and dad said that she can't be in the house anymore...

You should get her a gosling buddy.

I'm working on that.. I couldn't find any on craigslist and I tried posting on the MN thread, but there is a big swap this Saturday. Hopefully someone there will be selling goslings.

I saw that movie as a kid and I loved it.

I was hoping that it'd go over more smoothly... I had a chick imprint on me once and I couldn't be more than 2 feet away from him without him crying, but as soon as I got him a buddy, he forgot all about me. I was hoping that my little gosling would befriend the chicks, hopefully she still will. I just felt really bad leaving her like that.
